At this point it kind of freaks me out. It's so small. There is absolutely no DD functionality.
How much functionality do you need? I'm assuming lack of rear seats isn't an issue since you actually bought one, and its mid-engine layout means you've got way more cargo capacity than other similar cars and even some "more practical" cars. I guess if you're the type that likes to have a grand view above the traffic from an SUV or pickup then yeah a Cayman could be disconcerting, but I don't think that's the benchmark for many people in the market for this car. And size does not necessarily translate to better crash protection if that's the concern.

In other news, my GT4 build just locked, so last-minute option agonizing can finally stop, and now the wait begins.

No. It's just small and the front end makes it almost impossible to drive around as a dd.
I knew what I was getting but the Cayman was never high on my list of cars to buy until the GT3 became almost impossible to acquire.
It's a fine vehicle.

Impossible to acquire? About as impossible to acquire as a GT4 now?

Just reading an article (in Motor Trend) where the GT4 had a significant issue with understeer on their Laguna Seca "Best Driver's Car" test. They even had the Porsche mechanics standing by re-align the car and set the adjustable anti-sway bar to reduce front-end push. In the end it got second place in that best drivers car comparo (first was the Mercedes AMG GT S; no 911 variants tested this year). Anyone with a Cayman GT4 have an opinion about the car's tendency to understeer? Seems odd.

They also had their Corvette Z06 go almost immediately into limp mode and it scored a "DNF" for the test. One gets the feeling these cars loaned out for media testing have had the living snot beat out of them. However, the test extends over several days and the manufacturers are allowed to fix the cars that have issues.

Rennlist is abuzz with understeer discussions. It depends a lot on what you're used to; most of these guys are comparing to other GT cars and even they admit that for example the .2RS understeered significantly from the factory. The bigger concern is that if the sway bar adjustments aren't enough, apparently there's fairly little additional extra camber you can get out of the GT4 (on either axle) without aftermarket parts to help further adjust the balance, which is not the case on other GT cars. All that said, it still managed to turn a very impressive lap time for a 385 hp car, so I'm not worried.

The Z06 not only had a problem with retarded ignition timing and no supercharger boost (which GM blamed on the ECU getting confused by the switch from 93 gas in Arizona where it was earlier to 91 in California), it was also delivered with worn out brake pads.

I don't think too many are buying GM's "bad gas" excuse. Something else must have broken on that 'Vette. And delivering it with worn-out brake pads indicates the car had already been seriously tested but not checked out. This reminds me of the time Dodge delivered Motor Trend an early 2013 Viper with wrong/worn/mis-matched tires and a loose driver's seat (among other things). Whomever handles test cars for the auto manufacturers seems to be doing a sketchy job.

A friend of mine has a GT4 and I was following him around the track at SMMR a couple of weeks ago. He was getting understeer. The car does not have enough camber or adjustment from the factory. He ordered some Tarret eccentric monoball bushings that will solve the camber issue.

Yeah, people are talking about shims for the front and Cup car toe links for the rear. I'll see what I think when I get mine. As I said above, it probably depends a lot on what you're used to. My E92 only has camber plates in terms of suspension mods, and I didn't think it understeered too significantly, but then I caught a ride in my instructor mentor's E36 M3 that has upsized front tires, stiff lowering springs, adjustable sway bars, and camber plates with a much more aggressive setup than mine (he doesn't DD this like I do mine), and the speeds he was able to carry through certain areas of CotA made me feel like a novice. Having a few hundred pounds fewer to toss around didn't hurt either, to be sure. But the point is that if I were using that E36 as my benchmark, I would have much different expectations of the GT4 than if I will coming from the E92 that I DD.

^ Nice to see another DBM. Mine will have silver wheels, painted headlamp washers, and LWBs though. And my dealer is throwing in the clear LED side markers. Congrats!!!

Are you the guy on Rennlist who picked up a car that looks like this from Porsche Exchange in Chicago?

Congrats! I think I finally just locked an allocation down for myself. It will be a long wait, but I've been having a complete blast with the S2000 so the wait won't be bad.

Congrats 991GT3! Car looks great.

Mine is passing thru the Panama Canal as we speak and I can't wait for it to arrive. I'm fairly confident that with toe links and a proper alignment, the understeer can be neutralized. Proper setup does wonders for GT cars. I've drive GT3's with base factory alignments that drove like shit and cars that are properly setup and the difference is night and day. I expect the same here.
