speeding ticket advice
Hi all,
i got a speeding ticket in BC a week ago... it's "only" $113 so i'm not gonna cry too much about it... but i just noticed tonight as i was writing a cheque to pay it, that the officer didnt fill out the "Registered Owner's Name" box on the ticket... my name does appear on top, but not in that box... is that good enough to fight it?? i'm not gonna go to court on this one, 10 hrs away from home is not worth it... so if i have a good chance to walk away from it because of what i described above, i'll fight it in writing. If not, i'll send the cheque... any input will be appreciated... Pat |

I don't think that matters, since it's the "registered owner's name" which could just be found from the plates. If it doesn't mention the driver's name on it, then you may have a case.
good luck! |

Send a Registered Letter asap, and see if they respond. If not, it's a small price to pay!

Not a guarantee...but worth a shot 'cause it doesn't cost you any more to go to court (excepting your gas/parking/time) than it would be to sign "guilty" and pay the ticket. Good luck - Mark |

like i said, not worth the 10-hour drive... for this one...
since you guys seem eager to give me advice (which i DO appreciate!) here's the rest of my story for that week-end... i got 2 speeding tickets in AB (where i live) within 2 hours... dont ask how, or why, i wasn't speeding stupidly, nor racing, just cruising at too high a speed on a wide-open, straight, 4 lane divided highway... highly dangerous, i know...and not paying enough attention to oncoming traffic, ie cops... anyhow, i was originally thinking of fighting the first one, or at least get it reduced... now i dont really see myself going to court, pleading for a reduced charge, where the judge or Crown will easily see that i continued speeding after the first one... so i might just have to suck it up... and yes i do feel stupid for getting 3 tickets in one week-end... however i feel much less dangerous at 145 in a 110 (km/h), in these conditions (good weather, open highway, etc...) than this lady who was half-asleep at the wheel, doing 105 in a 110 on the left lane, with her seat half-leaned back... but sure as sh** she'll never get a ticket... Cheers... |
