Are extra vents necessary? The engine already breathes cold outside air through the vent that is there. As far as I know it's good to keep the engine as warm as possible without boiling the coolant or causing early detonation. My reason for this theory is the colder the engine the more power it is absorbing through heat loss of each explosion. You want as much expansion as possible in the cylinder to push the piston down with the most force possible. If you keep the engine to cold part of the heat created from the explosion is lost through the cylinder walls instead causing less expansion of the burning fuel and creating less power. Therefore, if you want more power you want engine as warm as possible without overheating. So why would you want unnecessary vents in the hood unless you have an issue with overheating? The engine breathing cold air is good though because colder air is denser so you get more oxygen with it. Not sure if this theory is totally correct anybody know otherwise?
