I have a 09 M3 coupe in Toronto, Canada

Scheduling a winter tire change for Nov 1 and they also mentioned a US program recall and pen me in for it.

Again like everyone said...they couldn't give out much detail for now.

except DCT is not SMG. You should have checked "Buy a clue" option when you ordered the car.

Don't care, car will be sold/traded in before warranty... for another M3 with DCT :-).

And the software related woes continue for DCT....

Great transmission if/when the software works (I really liked mine for the short period the software actually worked correctly), but I'm sure glad I don't have to deal with this anymore.

Lag, somewhat less lag, now "freeze frame", what's next? If history is a guide this "fix" will have issues that require another "fix". It's been version after version after version since the DCT first showed up. And getting issues with lag and so forth resolved (see sticky) were a total PITA.

If I still had my M3 and DCT--which finally worked correctly after several updates--there's no way I'd have this "fix" done. Who knows what they've broken now that will turn up under this or that condition? And getting the dealer to fix the fix if this "fix" causes the lag to return? Yeah, right. No thanks!

It's like awaiting the next security hole and then patch from Microsoft. Except you can't update it from the internet, and just like the Microsoft fix there's always another one to worry about down the road.

Hopefully the patch includes the auto stop when backing up just before making contact with anything and the 360 degree anti blind spot capability.

ahh the possibilities..... auto calculations for determining exactly when you should accelerate or stop on yellow lights, anti curb rash, advanced rock chip to windshield warnings....

Yep, I need to get the sw upgrade that lowers the 0-60 time to about 3.5 sends, bumps the top speed to 195 and increases the mpgs to about 30 or so. Isn't that part of the free maintenance? Can I get a loaner?

I doubt it's a big deal to most DCT owners (though it obviously was for you, sucks that you had problems), in general they probably just have oil changes that are a bit longer. Take this one for example, why would I care if an aftermarket scanner causes a freeze? How many M3 owners are out there using aftermarket scanners or going to third party mechanics, and of those, how many run into the problem? I'm glad they're fixing it, but I don't think many of these woes are even noticed.

Had my first service last week (13 months - 13,250 miles) and was informed of this SIB - the only difference I can tell is that when I backing out of my garage, or reverse in general, it goes into D1 instead of 1 - it did not do this before.

I did have it at the track afterwards and it felt fine. My Service Advisor told me it was to assist/make it easier in diagnosing DCT problems should they occur.

Go Rangers!!!!!

Had the OP titled this thread: "Heads up: Recall for 08 DCT M3's", your statement would be more appropriate.

No, if he would have titled it that, 6mt owners wouldn't have had to click on the thread in the first place. Because he didn't, 6mt owners had to read the thread, realize it didn't involve them and then "decide to move along."

Yeah, you're probably right, and this isn't a big deal to most folks. I'm just saying that historically software updates from BMW that fix one thing often break another. There's the infamous software "fix" for rattling wastegates on early N54s...that induced massive turbo lag that people went nuts about for almost a year before BMW "fixed" the "fix" (there were denials, normal operation BS, multiple interim software versions). A look through the DCT thread shows that several DCT software fixes caused other issues like the shift lights not working, etc. Quality control, through positive and negative and regression testing isn't their strong point....

This "fix" may not cause other issues, but like you said, if it's not bothering you why fix it? Good point for the "end user". But I think BMW will be insistent on making the fix. I think the reason they're keen to install this "fix" on all cars, and folks don't have to fight for the update (like many of us with DCT lag did) is that it means they're out of regulatory compliance. The glitch means you can't work on the car yourself or take it to an indie shop. Car manufacturers cannot do things that service at their shops a monopoly--that's illegal. And if the glitch means third party tools don't work that means they've effectively locked everyone but BMW out. So the law forced their hand....Interesting. At least if this is a "good" version of software those who were unable to get an update in the past will have a inroad to getting the update.

It has to do with the fuel pumps in the n54 twin turbo engines 130 k cars involved
2007-2010 models the cars suddenly go into limp mode backfire etc.

i think its a service call on the software upgrade for mdct. i brought mine in for brake oil change (normal service call) and they insisted to upgrade the software in which i complied and it made a great difference

Sorry to bump an old thread but i finally got this done last week..

I notice some of the screens are different like the "Navigation while driving warning" screen is now wrapped at half the screen and the bluetooth phone options are more "tidy" now.. I think the navi street names are in a more clear font as well (not 100% about that one).. other than that I don't notice any difference in the operation and response of the dct after this reflash.

My SA told me I had a failed module in the car too from the last reflash.. what ever that means.. but I was experiencing intermittant shutdown of the entire idrive system about once a month since the last reflash..and so far it hasn't happened (knock on wood)..

The thing that sucks is all my numbered memory settings needed to be redone and the last destinations navigation addresses were also wiped.. grrrrrrrrrr .. however my bluetooth and vehicle default settings remained the same.
