I don't know about Infinities, I am currently using my friend's G35 Coupe, because he wants to drive mine, and I don't like it. The engine does sound nice, but this 2004 Infinity is a great deception. However, is is a 36K car not the 50K I bought with all the toys. And this ones is older. I hope infinity raises the bar because the G35 Coupe Auto feels nothing but maybe comfortable.

But, I'm pretty sure the 335 will be able to blow the doors of the G37.

Stats
G37:
330 hp
270 lb-ft
7500 rpm
6 spd MT
AWD
1664 kg

335i:
300+ hp
300+ lb-ft
7000 rpm
6 spd MT or an amazing step
RWD
1520 kg

So, to me, the G37 loses on the fact that it's AWD and that it'll prolly have less HP to the wheels than the 335i, and that it's also heavier.

Opinions?

P.S. This is a discussion, nothing final. I know it's not out yet, so this is speculation.
how old are you, if you are 10 years old I give you the benefit of the doubt, but blow the doors off is a far fetched comment, please advise

yes, IF the G37 was AWD, it would equal more parasitic loss... but after a certain threshold of horsepower, you need to get that power to the ground, or else you have tire hop and wheel spin. there are 2 options, LSD (which is available with the Infiniti Sport package) or adding more wheels to get the power to the ground.

how do i not know what i am talking about when dummies think that the G37 is AWD? they are both RWD...

oh, if fanboys still want to post about the 335 blowing the doors off the G37. edmunds did a track test. It was a tie, until the Bimmer overheated. I think they might have an expert or 2 on staff...

I love the BMW 3 coupe, but guys, the thing aint invincible. Maybe some of you should stop being blind fanboys and start being car fans.

Yes, but the G37 doesn't have that much more horses, and can easily have a RWD a be OK. I am not doubting that an LSD or AWD helps for the higher Hp, but the issue is that if the G37 was an AWD car, with 330 horses, that would not be the smartest thing on earth for fast acceleration...

Now, I did think it was AWD, but that's just from reading the site incorrectly...so sorry about that...

Forget this even started ok? They're both nice, but to me the 335 is better. Finished.

I had the choice and made it. however my final decision was based upon a few things...

1. new G37 looks funky , the Gen 1 looked more agressive. Infiniti if you want to look like lexus DO IT... but dont expect me to buy.
2. gas mileage was a pig with my G35 auto and I expect 10% improvement with the new G37 engine. 10% aint working. this engine should of been direct injection , this would have made me remove reason #2. I was getting 15-16 MPG I would expect 16.5 to 17.6 improvement... nice but no cigar
3. the low end torque of the 335i cant be matched with a NA 6. I've always said i would rather feel fast then go fast... not that the 335i is a slouch - but once you get into the higher rpms it really doesnt matter.
4. spend 1k on the G and you'll get around 5hp , spend 1k and you get shiv - nuff said.

now if rumors are true and a V8 or Turbo V6 is in it's future... bmw will get passed again.

Hmmmmmm, maybe i'm missing something here, but shouldn't we be debating the merits of the G37 vs the 328, since the G has an base price that is LESS than the 328?

By the time the g37 gets in that range the 335i would be about a car length ahead. I really like the g37, maybe even better than the 335i but come one. I will just wait until anothe magazine does their comparison.

They should have tested both cars on the same track and reported back the track time.

who cares if the test is "fair" or not

I don't want to drive a nissan, and would never pay more than 20 grand for one

G35 has been cheaper and faster before, but for some reason they just can't sell them.

I dont understand how the G37 is the winner...in the test data ( page 4 ) the 335i beats it at everything...

I'm glad to see bmw's cost cutting (no LSD), they're hard-headedness (RFTs), and they're disloyalty to staying a performance oriented brand (I.E. the increase in weight/lux vs. decrease in fun seen from E36-->E46-->E90) have made them lose to a jap. Whatever. time for some mods

supposedly it's going to be a bad ass little rocket, BUTlook at other entries like the VW phaeton which by all accounts and reviews was a really nice car, basically the same thing as an audi A8, but nobody wanted to pay that much for a VW and it failed miserably.

The same thing will happen with this car, it doesn't matter how fast or great they make it, the public will not pay more than about $45k for a japanese sports car, the NSX sold poorly so don't bring that one up (you could also say that the NSX was underpowered and that's why it failed)

people need to see a value in a car, and if they price the GT-r above an M3 or Cayman/Boxster/Exige..... they won't sell any at all.
