This depends on where you live. The M3 around here would stand out enough to get noticed.

Just purchased as well and couldn't be happier! Smiling ear to ear every time I drive this beast. Do it and you'll never look back. One thing though, it is a gas guzzler - V8, typical.

everytime we'd see a 328 or a 335 they go..." wow just like your car!!!!"...

My 2005 honda spirit's got more attention from girls then any of my M...

The only thing about my M3 which I don't like is the horrid gas mileage when you have some fun above 5k rpm.

But no regrets.

Nope

I regret not getting mine sooner.

I used to laugh because my daily driver was a Jeep Wrangler V6, and I actually got 1 mpg better with the M3's V8 (19.1 vs 18).

My only gripes are
1.) The gas tank is small. My round-trip commute to work will burn up 1/4 of a tank
2.) I didn't know what a combox was or what it did because the M3 was my first BMW, and the one that I got doesn't have it. Now I'm looking for a retrofit but there's issues there.

I do regret it at times. I spent several months looking for my play thing and had it narrowed down to a few including the M3. The others:

2011 C63 AMG - Couldn't wait for a transmission change in 2012 and refused to own a torque converter transmission for my toy. Seats were not as comfortable and Insurance was about the same as the Boxster. Priced $6K cheaper than my M

2011 Boxter Spyder - Liked the exclusivity of it, but had concerns about the manual top and ride, Second cheapest to insure. Priced $5K cheaper than my M

2010 Carrera 4S - New leftover black-on-black and priced $20K below sticker. Did not want to take care of a black car, but insurance was the cheapest. Priced $7K more than my M

2007 Aston V8 Vantage - 4K miles on the clock but insurance was through the roof. Also, being in OKC, I would have to take it 200 miles to Dallas for any repairs. Priced $2K less than my M

My M is a fun car to drive and is a good balance of performance car that is comfortable on road trips, but I think the 911 would have been more fun in the long run. The Aston was just too expensive to insure, but I think would have been a real "Garage Queen"

My only regret is that the gearbox on the M3 is more notchy (especially from 1st to 2nd) then even my old evo. Other than that there is no better car for the money.

I regret BMW not offering COMP package in '09s when I ordered my M3. Other than that, I's been real happy. I will say the only reason at the time I purchased the M3 was because the 550i was in its last cycle year and I didn't want a 7 yr old dated 75K car. But have been very happy with the decision.

+1 on this one. Shifting 1st to 2nd gear is very notchy for me. Maybe I'm going to try to get the short shifter kit with the linkage upgrade.

Yes I would have, but the reason I didn't before was the dealer sold it before I came to my senses. I wish I was quicker with the descision.

Don't let it stop you from enjoying yours.
It is an M3 after all

Regrets? Not exactly. I bought mine just to try it for a while.

I drove one at the 'Ring earlier this year, and I came away really impressed with the capabilities of the M3. As a DD, however, I get frustrated with the old "no fun driving a fast car slow" syndrome. To give an idea how boring my commute is, I'm averaging 23-24 mpg. I have a dedicated track car, so I won't be taking the M3 to the track. Too much weight, not enough torque, and too much money for consumables and too much at risk for my budget.

I'll probably drive it a couple more months, and then move on.
