tint on windshield?

Hey Guys,

Ive been asking about tint stuff for a few months now... finally have a date open on wednesday I can get in for it and was considering doing the front window lightly tinted or maybe just the top of the windshield... anyone have pics of the top of windshield only? think it cheapens the look of the vehicle?

have the option of limo tint all around (not windshield) or slightly lighter on front drivers and passenger windows... not sure what to do... been a decade since i did my own tint on a car... dealership typically handled it for me.

I agree, though I would do 50% windshield. Tint begins to fade within a year or so and then gradually gets lighter and lighter. Your 70% will lighten to 50% in a year.

Don't you mean a 50% will lighten to 70%? And if you're not using crappy tint then the tint percentage shouldn't change much over time. At least not after a year....

OP, I have a 50% on my front windshield. I love it, there is no difference looking out day or night but from the outside, it completes the tinted look. Looks great

i agree and disagree

for me, whenever I drive a car that doesn't have a tinted windshield, I absolutely hate it

so much sun comes in.. and if it's at night, the car lights look so damn bright

then again I have extremely sensitive eyes... my eyes react to the smallest change in light :P

I have all my windows at 30% and my windshield at 70%. It makes the car look great and classy, not tinted out like a thug ride. Everyone comments on how dark the car looks from the outside but from inside it is perfect.

nice. thank you all for the feedback. ill likely do the front window full tint. as far as pricing goes i have 2 quotes... one from my dealership and one from my friend who gives me a slight discount.

about $390-400 for legal only tint (wouldnt get the windshield on this one) from the dealer.

$375 for any tint level i want on all windows from my friend.

these are not (to my knowledge) ceramic tints.

thoughts on those prices?

Prices are decent for a professional shop, but you can find better. The important part here is that you get the correct tint so it doesn't mess with your CA and such. Also, ask how they handle the dot matrix at the top of the rear window and at your door window edges.

My guy charged me $300 for everything including for the proper LLumar tint. He has done all my cars for me and is mobile; he does the work in front of me in my garage.

Those seem very high. I had mine done with LLumar ceramic all around for $200 flat. Best tint job I've ever seen too, they really did a great job.

Hmm...I only paid $150 for Llumar tint all around, including extra labor to put a vinyl on the rear dot matrix.

Love the 50% on my windshield. Unless you have a limo tint, it makes the difference between whether people can see in the car or not under most circumstances.

Edit: Although ironically not in my sig pics

I paid $350 for Pinnacle F1 30% all around (except the front windshield) and the vinyl on the dot matrix. Still thinking about going back to get the front windshield done in 70% or 50% even, but not sure yet.

wow...

you guys are getting WAY better prices than anywhere in arizona is offering.

I have called 7 different tint shops and every single one has quoted high 300s or low 400s. I do have tint that came with my car but its scratched from them not having removed the plate in the door that causes this or the other option of felting the rollers.

highest quote was $500 to remove current tint and add new tint (nothing on front window, no vinyl on the dot matrix) and this was for F1 tint.

Appears as if i am getting screwed a bit?

I had Huper 60 on the front of my E46 M3. The only time it bugged me was at dusk when my brain kept telling me that I should be seeing more light but I wasn't. Probably didn't help that I'd roll down my windows to get fresh air and more light would stream in from the sides (every other window was Huper 50). I do miss the heat rejection coming in from the front, and I may put 70 on eventually. As for pricing, I don't know how guys are getting ceramic tint so cheap. Metallic I understand and $150-$200 sounds about right.. The material cost of ceramic is (supposedly) much more though.

Call azhitchman in glendale. I have taken all my cars there. Do good work with lifetime warranty. Should be 120 or so.

$500 for tint and including removing the old tint doesn't seem too bad. Honestly sometimes depending on the tint on there it can be a PITA to take it off. When I was stationed in Germany I had to take the tint off of my old car because the military had some sort of rule against it and wouldn't let me register my car. I asked around and there were a few German shops that did it, but they were expensive and as I was brand new to my unit I didn't know anyone who had any connections. I figured I'd read online and do it myself. It took a while and it was kind of rough, it was one of the first things I've ever done to a car cosmetic-wise.

I've done 60 on the front windshield and 40 on the rest. Tint is by Huper Optik ceramic and can't recommend it enough. It ran $475 but they had to remove the previous tint as well which was a real PITA.
