I get a similar sound to what you describe because the right front wheel touches the fender liner at a certain angle. My car is lowered and I am running 15mm front spacers on the 220 wheels.
It's easy to check for rub marks on your fender liner. Just steer your front wheels right and left to check the liners for rub marks. In any case, the front wheel rubbing sounds minor. Mine has been rubbing this way for the last 9k miles w/ no real issues.

at very low speeds, 5-15 mph, there is a high pitch squeak whenever i turn right (usually almost full lock). happens very intermittently, and only when turning right. not necessarily braking....any ideas?

I had the same thing but it went away. Usually happens in parking lots, and is usually more noticeable when the weather is cold. One of the members found the problem within the steering column. I'll post the link later if i find it, but it shouldn't be to hard to find.

I have the same issue also, but going left. I only hear it when my A/C is on. The moment i turn it off, it disappears.

I noticed that when I brake moderately hard once I get below 25 mph and stay on the brakes I get this rubbing type of sound. However it has stock 19s and 245/35/19 tires up front. Anyone have this type of noise?

Hi everyone,
After reading all posts i did not really find any that could explain the leaking noise from the exhaust/manifold. I know that the E9x M3 has the cat. Warm-up period, but no one really go deep into this. Mine is Warming up the cats for about 1 min. And then it is quiet, but when accelerating even with slight throttle, i have the Sound Of a leak in the exhaust manifolds and I think it sounds like crap and cheap. Why does it sound this way ?? Can anyone explain it ? Has anyone tried to overcome this ? - Can it be solved with exhaust wrap arround the manifold pipes ?? Please - any solution or explanation Of why this crappy Sound is chosen from BMW, Will be appreciated. It drives me nuts !!! Sounds is really loud especially when driving up against a wall or a fence. Best regards From Denmark |

Besides, i think it is a great idea if admin would follow up with a sticky with M3 sounds Normal/Not Normal - it could save many users for many costs to mechanics and so called specialists. I have in my case bene 5 times to different dealers with the same outcome - "no leaks"
And boy - i feel stupid when leaving the dealer and just paid for nothing.... |

On my 6MT, I now hear a faint rattle when I accelerate with moderate throttle from 2k rpms, in all gears except 1st.
Anyone else have this?

sorry, but no - it only refers to the cat. warm up period, which mine of course also have, but mine have the same leak noise / sound when accelerating both moderate and hard. There is nothing in idle or when driving at konstamt speed.
actually all the mechanichs tell me that it is normal, but for me it sounds odd and thinking of a car that expensive, one should expect that the engineers of BMW made it so it couldnt be compared to a simple exhaust leak. Hopefully there is a technical genious that can explain my many questions: why this leak noise/sound occurs and where it comes from exactly? Is it the material of the headers? Is it the shape of the headers / cat. ? Is it a leak that occurs because of strecthing the clamps/joints in this section? has someone worked with manifold wrap tape and does that dampen sounds? i hate this sound especially when i dont know why it is there and what causes it. best regards |

btw. i have no rattle noises at all only the diff. grinding at 45-50 mph. and after been explaining that this is normal on a LSD diff, I live with the sound.
but someone told me tha it can be reduced by adding a special additive to the diff. oil havent looked into this yet, but when I do I will update here. |

And, it only happens when I'm loafing around. I don't hear it if I downshift a few gears and nail the throttle or hammer it from a dead stop up through the gears. |

correct, the modified diff oil can remove the sound, but it is not optimum as it modifies the function of the clutch pack inside the diff. I think the fluid allows for more slippage.

But - I can live with it... The real irritating noise is the leak sound from the manifold/cat. - Same sound from that area as the cold-start warm-up period. THAT anoys me big time. |

My engine kind of whistles under throttle, at high revs is sounds kinda like a turbo. Had my local shop take a look and they said it wasn't anything to worry about, just over over the throttle bodies. Anyone else ever had this?
