I test drove a GranTurismo S a few years back and was hugely disappointed. The interior looks and feels very cheap and it is not a fun car to drive. It sounded amazing though.

Having driven a Maerati GT and having a friend who is a former Aston Martin Vantage owner (who now owns a M3) I will say that my general opinion of those cars is; they look and sound great but are down on power for what you pay. At that price point a 911 Turbo is the obvious choice.

Ferrari is one thing.. Maserati's in my own personal opinion though, are not worth the price of entry. You did good keeping your M3.

Even the F430 is a whole different category above the M3. I've driven one and its such a fantastic car. The M3 doesn't compare.

They had 2 used 458s for 165k and forgot to mention that they are an Aston dealer as well. The Astons were lined up and he told me that I can return to test drive one another day if I like coz it was raining that day lol.

The Maserati does not interest me at all as a car, it's nothing special as a performance unique car. It's way over priced.

Thing is, with all those cars around me, I didn't feel the desire to even test drive any of them . I really feel happy in my M3

The interior looks and feels cheap?

You are delusional. I don't think you were really in a Maserati.

Glad I'm not alone in this. Have driven the ferraris, lambos, porsche GT2 and 3, etc....they are great but the V8 M3 manages to be more than the sum of its parts and I wouldn't trade it for any of them

The 458 is the F430's replacement and I can name half a dozen cars that look a lot better.

IMO the 458 is slowing starting to show its age and I do agree I would drive one for about 6 months then trade up.

Ferrari would be a dream. Will ride out my 30s with my badass m3 then hope to get into a porsche in my 40s. OP, I dont know how many people can say that about their car. I think many m3 owners feel they have a real gem. I know I do.

I was at a Cars & Coffee this past weekend, and got to take a good close look at a 458. Here's what I discovered:

For a $300k car, there is a lot of cheapish looking plastic both inside and out.

For a $300k car, the paint job sucked.

For a $300k car, the engine bay looked very "tinny", for lack of a better term

Basically it just didn't appear to have the solid build quality that I would expect in a car of this caliber.

By contrast, the Aston Martin DBS that was sitting next to it looked flawless.

The overall build quality of the M3 is certainly no less than the 458.

People who own cars like this are mega-wealthy. A 458 cost 4x what an M3 costs, yet I am willing bet the the average income of a 458 owner is like 20-30x the income of the average M3 owner.

So while it was nice to look at, I really didn't want one. So what car really did get my juices flowing.....An Aston Martin Vantage S. Everything about this car was pure sex.

Agreed.............rather have the M3 for a slight performance edge, but the GT in particular is a beautiful car.

Just to add balance here; I tracked a 430, but enjoyed the drive home in my M3 more.

thank you, A DBS is an absolutely amazing car. At times i feel that the 458 is getting old. Reminds me of everyone getting gallardos when they were the thing. not saying it's not a nice car, just better cars out there for the money.

The GranTurismo is in an entirely different category than an M3. Maybe Maserati should be more obvious that it's a grand touring car... like putting something in the car's name?

I have a soft spot for the GranTurismo. Sexy curvy hips, great interior and awesome sound stock. That said, it's huge and heavy - it drives well for a DD but, again, it's no where near the performance and handling of the M3.
