A monster for sure, but will be ~$110k for the wagon? Can't deal with that. CTS-V wagon, used E63 Wagon, or X5M... some other options out there.

Kids won't be happening for another number of years (well that is the plan...) By then, it will be used and in a better price range. Then again, there will be other cars I will want. On my second M now, gonna stay that way for some time!

Planning to put your kids in the trunk? you don't need a wagon or SUV for kids, our e90 was just fine. Wagons are good for dogs and carrying junk.

They have some cool factor but at half the price a CTS-V sounds like a no brainer if you don't mind the tacky analog clock in the middle of the dash for a 100 grand an x5 looks a lot better.

Agree, my kids love the E90. We drove a non-AMG E wagon and they had a blast in the rear jump seats. Like going to back to the old days of sitting in the "way back"...

Also consider a JGC SRT8. Good value proposition.

I dislike SUVs, so I was entertaining the idea to get this wagon for my wife - 4wd and lot's of space. But they screwed up at least one thing - the tires on these wheels are so low profile even in the wagon that it's going to ride harsher than an M3. And no way to get smaller wheels to put more rubber on - the brakes will not clear. I am worried that it is going to be too harsh on suspension and too low to survive in Toronto. Also, on wagon wheels look tiny (the total diameter is smaller than on M3). Probably going to be a deal-braker. I'll still test-drive it if I do not get anything before.

Audi (R)S6 wagon would be ideal - softer, tougher, and actually cheaper if not RS, but not available in US.

Other options on the list are in order of likely preference Macan Turbo (if it turns our well), SQ5, used Cayenne Turbo or Audi S7 (if I get completely disappointed by SUVs). X5 was crossed out because of its size, and the new one seems to be even bigger, and X3 is a bit too bare-bones, although I may change my mind - it's too good of a vehicle for the money. Wish they made X3M... Not to go off-topic...

Well, I tried planning going to a ski cottage for a week with one baby in an M3. Even with skis on the roof there is no way to fit all the equipment and baby stuff comfortably. In a wagon, I could find the place for all that and for grandma to babysit!

Order a X3 35i with M-sport and DHP. While not quite the performance of a potential M version, it will be faster than most in it's class. Add a tune and bring it up a notch.
