Even at -5 they were like rocks on my rims....but even though the suspension bottoms out I am used to it now, and whacks that seemed like they would have flatted the car don't so, I'm just careful and eagerly await warmer days (and summer gas).

Hmmm.... reminds me of highschool. We used to test drive all kinds of cars (Acura, Lexus, etc...). I would usually just go the "my parents are buying it for my birthday/graduation route." Occasionally I'd tell them my < insert semi expensive car > was stolen and I'm getting an insurance check any day now.

Stew you should have no problems getting a Porsche test drive. Just stop by in the X5 and talk about how much you love german cars and BMWs, but the 6-series just isn't doing it for you as a sports car (no back seat bench for the dog in the Z4). Grab the guys card, then email or call him asking if they have a demo.

Me being a scruffy 25 year old with a car I obviously just bought I'd probably go the route of "my grandfather just died and left me a bunch of money, he never drove anything but Porsches and I want to continue his legacy... sniff." Same thing, stop-and-chat, then hit with the follow up email/call. Wheee, maybe when I've got more time on my hands.

Haha... you're right. Shows what a dork I am running lines on car salesmen when I should be preying on plateau sluts with my *sniff* dead grandfather stories.

The cops are out in force these days. There was a massive speed trap on the service road of the 40 this morning. 7 or 8 cop cars, it must be like shooting fish in a barrel. It seems like everyone I know is getting tickets. The insurance companies must love this crackdown, justification to jack up premiums even though if anything people are going to be driving safer.

Yeah, you know, Montreal Men know that pretty soon the winter coats are coming off the Montreal Girls, and the Hunt will soon be underway. Ergo, their right feet are going wild, and the police are very aware of this fine opportunity to make Hay while the sun tries to shine. The de la Montagne onramp to the westbound Ville Marie has had a cop there lately, preventing people from cutting in, and I see a lolt of cops elsewhere too....shouldn't they be filling potholes?????

You're right about the potholes. I'll be sure to stop and ask the next police officer I see preying on frisky Montreal men.

Ah... the coats are hitting the floor. You better get that Porsche lined up and give the wifey the "keeping our options open" speech.

Beware that the cops are raking in the dough to permit the City to pay the poor blue collar workers stress pay so that they actually work again after a long winter of hibernation to fill the potholes.

The potholes should be filled by this December. In the meantime, as usual, once the skirts are up, as Stew said, even the cops won't be paying attention to traffic anymore.

Spring is always a time for renewal, including of the cops Dunkin' Donuts/Tim Horton fund.

All week they have been praying upon unsuspecting double-turners from Cote Saint Luc on to Decarie, just before the CSL entrance ramp onto the Highway (towards downtown). What amazes me is that all week there were at least 5-8 cars nabbed every day-don,t people learn and call a friend anymore ?

People can be real drones, I have discovered in this life. There is a severe lack of common sense in our society.

Speaking of Tim Horton's, it opens tomorrow on the exchanges. My bet is that it goes down at the opening!

No way, market stabilization - the dealers won't allow it to happen, they upped to IPO price.

It will go up by 10% I will guess.

I think the next time I see one of those mega-speed traps on the service road (like the one I got nailed on).... I'm going to stand up the street from them with a big sign that says "ATTENTION: POLICE - 200 YARDS." I bet that would piss them off.

Why do you think they'll go down? I could see them riding on their sheer celebrity status in Canada (the same way I think GOOG does in the US), but I couldn't see them getting much interest from US investors.

AHA,

The US guys are going to buy in on the US growth story plus they can flip their IPO stake to gullible retail investors in Canada.

Don't forget that the parent (Wendy's) is US based, so there will be a institutional following there for sure at first.

If Horton executes righ in the US, they can get market tracktion, just like CoucheTard has.

But Bimmerista, they're "not allowed" to let that happen!!LOL

At some point those Americans, of whom are the majority of the deal, dump it, thinking us foolish Canadians need to have Tim's in our portfolios....the increased price proved to me that they think we're stupid...unless Joe Average Canadian really is that dumb...

Why I think they'll bomb...

But yah, if they can prove execution like ATD has, then they do well.

Anyway, maybe I just have sour grapes since I probably won't get any New Issue shares, but I have had way too many Historically Bad investors calling me for this deal and begging me for stock.

If it seems too good, then it probably isn't, that's my philosophy.

I agree that the stock seems fully valued from a Canadian perspective - their growth here is pretty much played out I think.

And I am weary of canadian companies with big American expeansion dreams, which what the growth story is presented for Timbits.

Most of them broke their teeth on the US market and some of them (remebers the funeral home operator - le Chateus almost went under 10 years ago) actually broke their backs

IMO there will be a lot of Joe Average Canadian people that buy their coffee from Tim Horton's every morning and subscribe to the "invest in what you know" philosophy (thanks to tech burns like NT and JDSU) to keep the demand strong in Canada at least.

Yeah, the US market is sooooo brutal. Apparently half of their sales are from coffee alone, which means they have to somehow pull people from their daily coffee routine to be able to replicate CDN success. The Tim Horton's brand is just way too Canadian to fly in the US if you ask me.

But... who the hell knows really. They have locations down there already, I wonder how they're doing?
