No, that's what it meant when the term was invented, and not just according to BDK. The term freestyle can be, and still is, used in that sense.

BDK was around when the term was invented, is considered to be one of the most influential MCs of all time, and actually wrote a book on the subject, so I think it's safe to drop the quotes.

a freestyle, from my experience/opinion, is something you come up with on the spot, not sitting there reading from your phone. you have your opinion as do i, words have different meanings to different people.

It's pretty clear you didn't know what you were ignorant of the multiple meanings of the term freestyle, otherwise I wouldn't have posted. You were the one who had stated that the OPs video didn't constitute a freestyle because it was written. Your accusation regarding my ostensible selective reading is baseless, as I previously stated there were two meanings to the term, as implied by the following citation:

Different meanings in that context clearly meant multiple meanings. Opinion has nothing to do with this, the meaning of the word in the context of hip-hop and rap is a matter of history and of fact.

No, by my logic, we should accept that sometimes words have multiple meanings, and endeavor to learn them. Here's another good one, the word freestyle as it pertains to swimming. Originally, the word meant that you could swim pretty much any stroke (backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke, etc), but now it pretty much means Australian crawl. The fact is though, that you could still swim sidestroke in a FINA freestyle heat if you wanted to. So then the word has two overlapping, yet somewhat distinct meanings. My point is even in swimming, freestyle can mean different things to different people, regardless of age or year. The same holds true for the meaning as it pertains to hip-hop.
