Porsche Design - How much longer can it go?

Porsche's designs are an evolution of each generation rather then a radical change. This design has been kept throughout the years and each car shares the same basic design principles. My question is, how much longer can the design evolve? Do you think the current designs time may be running out? What more can they do?

I posted this question on planet 9 to get some P car owner inputs, but what do you folks think?

I thought this was about those gay adidas shoes. I can see how it looks like they're running out of room to work with when it comes to the 911 but I think they'll keep it going for a while, with at least 3 more completely new bodystyles that will still be easily recognizable as a 911.

I don't even see how it can go another generation. The next gen 911 is essentially the same with LED lights all around and a few new tech toys...

They'll go back to the 356 design and start all over until they end up again as a 997.2. That should be good for a few more decades.

Then rinse and repeat.

People have been saying this crap for years, and Porsche keeps improving their product, why would they be unable now

I'd say it keeps going until they can't sell their cars...which doesn't seem to be anytime soon. With almost 60 years of the same car, it works for them.

They'll keep exaggerating the proportions and introducing trending design influence. The new roofline is far more sleek looking; almost aston-esque by comparison to the 997's.

There's always room for change, even if some don't see it as improvement. I don't doubt their ability to keep the familiar look even the slightest bit.

i love the iconic shape and design of the 911. it should go on forever. porsche just wouldnt be porsche without the rear engine and that 911 shape.

This is what makes a Porsche a Porsche. Porsche isn't about gadgets and gizmos, and the latest tacky trends. It doesn't play into the hype of what it should be. This is what makes it ten times better.

I cant see them ever killing the 911. Every new generation of youth starts a whole new cycle. They can probably keep tweaking the design for another 50 years if they really want. The problem is going to be what happens to the engines. If you thought the change from air cooling to water cooling was a big deal wait til they are all hybrids or electric lol

The LEDs are going to be necessitated by legislation pretty soon. Everything is going to have LED DRLs eventually. Porsche at least managed to include them tastefully without resorting to the x-mas tree look, but I noticed that the lower trims and some of the racier models like the Spyder have that shitty hair-thin LED stripe that looks useless. Plus the LEDs replaced the previous foglights that were in the same spot and just looked older by comparison, so it's not like they made any changes to include them.

Best inclusion has been the Panamera Turbo's so far.

Edit: not sure if LEDs will be mandated, but DRLs will be, and DRLs are more efficient so they'll be an obvious choice.

To BMW's credit, designers and engineers are tasked with making a package surrounded by 'hard points' that are a result of a given set of parameters created by crash standards, competitive class interior capacity, and pedestrian safety standards. The cars will grow in size to stay competitive with its class, which is why you see people complaining about the rear legroom of an E90 but not a B8 A/S4. The F30 will grow to accommodate this disadvantage.

Iconic is the word! They do not need to change as long as they evolve around the original design.
