1st Time Launch Control!!!!!!!!!!!!
I finally had the 1,200 mile service done and couldn't wait to test out the launch control. For something that is basically an electronic brake stand, it sure took me a long time to get it right the first time. I kept getting the flag to come on then revving without the brake depressed, or I would get the flag, forget and let the lever down and then have to start over.
FINALLY, I got it right and WOW!!!! You feel like a 16 year old kid again, only there are $1,000 worth of tires disappearing underneath you. This never gets old it just gets expensive.

I was on sort of a short stretch of back road, so I didn't see how long the car would keep burning out. I'm sure if you kept on cooking you could go sideways, but the car felt like it was still in control (as much as it can be with no traction)
Steps: 1. turn off DSC 2. Put transmission in manual and activate shift setting 6 3. With your LEFT foot on the brake, press the gearshift lever forward (downshift position) and hold it there. 4. After a few seconds a flag comes on the dash, at this time floor the throttle. 5. After a second or two the RPM's stay at 1,100 and the car feels like there is no power going to the wheels. 6. Step off the brakes and hold on!!!!! The car Revs up to 4,000 RPM or so and then lets loose the power to the wheels.

Actually you're not supposed to have your foot on the brake. And why are you tearing up tires with launch control? Mine don't spin using launch control ... ?

i remember when i first got the car broken in - we ended up doing runs till the car went into limp mode... im sure if youre on a well paved road itll blow your mind - the car just grips the road and launches.

Ive never actually used it in my car, the only launch Ive done was when I was at the Performance Driving School. I told the instructor that I hadn't broken in my car yet and he took me for a hot lap that he started with the launch control while everyone else was ending the day in the class room. It was epic

Never tried Launch control in my E46 M3s or E92 M3. A UK BMW master Tech told me you could only do 3 launches in an E46 M3 and still keep the new car warranty intact (for the clutch) while in the E92 M3 you can do as many as you like....Not sure about that!
Apparently the DCT has a bigger clutch for gears 1 3 5 and 7 which I suppose makes sense. |

Wait so the car shift automatically?
Do you have to have your foot down all the way or it optimized that for you as well?

Yes, it shifts for you as long as you keep your foot to the floor. You do not have to keep your foot to the floor, you can let off at any time and the car will go back to normal S mode behavior.

That was true for the non-US (Euro only?) E46 M3 SMG. They toned the launch down on this for the US. It didn't rev as high as the other non-US M3s or something like that.
I have heard nothing about this for the E9x M3s. What is "x" and what is your source. Cheers.

Yea, a source for that would be awesome. Unless it is explicitly stated in the manual, right after they tell you how to do launch control, i think they would have trouble legally doing this.
