Awesome car. Thinking about getting one for the track. Any advice on the following:

Model Year
Mileage
Coupe/Sedan (hear the sedan is stiffer?)

Thanks.

Thanks !

Get a 99,last year the E36 was built,so all the issues had been worked out !
If it's going to be a track car, don't worry about the mileage as long as you are rebuilding the motor and improve the handling with some good coilovers . Also make sure there's no rust.
Get a coupe !

Good Luck, let me know if you need help or have more questions !

I always thought 95 was better? OBD I.

Sick work man. Here is my E36. Bought it wrecked 2 years ago. 1 thing after another, here is the result.

We just added a Varis spoiler for tomorrow. we will be at Chuckwalla track in a couple hours.

OBD I was better back in 99 when no one had access to OBD II tuning. but now you can get more power out of the 99 than the 95. Sedan are better in build wise not handling ,both cars are 50/50 weight ratio .

Car looks sick,great job !

Nice car Long.
Btw, If I remember correctly, PTG built a 4-door e36 m3 to race once because they thought the 4-door chassis was stronger than the coupe.

Correct me if i'm wrong, stock for stock, the 95 was a bit more neutral. 96+'s turn-in is not as sharp due to the staggered setup, I believe.

However, a few tweaks of suspension can make the 96+ just as crisp. & people prefer the more torque of the 96+ anyway, included me.
I had both & I liked my 99 better than my 95.

Indeed the 4dr is built better than the coupe. Same goes for the E90 and the E92.

I installed actually a 95 steering rack cause its tighter and running a square setup with 17X9,Pss9s,RD sways and the car is on rails.

The sedan chassis is slightly more rigid than the coupe arguably because of the B pillar.

Yeah, I ran square setup on my 99 too.
I did some mods to it for the weekend track events, a few things like Ground Control coil-overs & camber plates, sway bars, SS brake lines, hawk pads, some bushings, & Dinan intake, chip, exhaust.

I always wanted to do the cams like yours, but honestly I got chicken out.

Did you get a custom tune from Jim C. for the 11.5:1 compression? Running on pump gas or 100? Deciding on if I blow my head gasket if I want to rebuild for NA or get it ready for FI.

I actually used my Jim C. Stage III tune. i will be getting a custom tune very soon tho.Car runs on 93 and its the highest compression i can run on pump gas.
Do a nice HC motor and ditch the FI if you gonna track it.

I have almost the same build as you on my E36 its just missing the ACS boot and delete and a BBTB. I have a tune with Active Autowerke but I will have to see what they can do for the crummy 91 octane I get here in California.
