What are you looking to do with this car? It can be very challenging to drive well (i.e in the twisties fast, especially coming from an M3) or launch right from the factory do to some pretty gnarly wheel hop. I have an 06 GT that I put a built motor in and I dumped way to much money in (blower/nitrous/clutch, you name it) and I know that if I ever wanted to sell it I'd lose my ass. Since you mentioned resale I assume you might want to keep it stock?

I had a 2011 with the SVTPP. It was a fun car, but I found traction to be a big issue. Full throttle in first gear was impossible and second gear was much the same unless you had warm tires and a good surface. Also, the 2011 didn't have the Recaro option and the standard seats offer little support. I also had a 2012 Boss 302 and much preferred the Boss to the GT500 even though the Boss lacked some of the niceties like nav, auto climate control, power seats and HID headlights.

Thanks! What did you think of it compared to the M in terms of daily use?
Would waiting for the 2013 be smart even though the extra power will probably only worsen traction?

2011's probably are best steal of deal right now... I just felt the interior was too 'plasticy & cheap' and my biggest gripe was no power 'back rest' on the front seat.

But it was a blast to drive in a straight line... fun car... and as a 2nd car.. .probably be fine.

You can find some sweet deals on a 2012 as well with Recaros.

Good point. I'd take a hard look at a '12 before deciding on a '13.

I had a 2010 E90 M3 DCT prior to the Shelby and the M3 was by far a better daily driver. The M had more room, a better interior, better seats, more comfortable suspension, better visibility and a DCT transmission that will shift itself in traffic. I owned the Shelby as a weekend toy and I did not consider the car a viable daily driver for me.

The 2013 GT500 is supposed to get some additional electronic aids to help with the traction issue. I'm guessing it will be an easier car to get off the line than the 2011 even with the extra 100hp.

If I was going to step up to the new 2013 GT500 I would also consider the 2013 Camaro ZL1. The ZL1 has more tire, magnetic dampeners, independent rear suspension and available nav for 2013. The Camaro is heavier and has less power than the Shelby, but so far the Chevy has proven to be very fast on the track.

Guess you havent read the problems ZL1 owners are having with traction control either despite all the technology its got on there.

Why not consider a grand sport vette as a second car?

Having driven a modded 2011 gt500 a lot, the inability to put the power down was maddening. Plus the solid axle made the car unstable on poor quality roads and broken pavement.

To me, a grand sport would be a better second car. Plus it can also be made really fast for cheap. Neither car has a great interior. The gt500 probably has better tech , but who cares in a second car?

Woke up this morning and had a big ol LOL...

On that note, aside from the cheapy interior, does the 2011 hold a 1g on the skid pad? Not bad for a solid rear axle. I wonder how the understeer is or if it feels heavy in the turns. I still love Mustangs and the car would be a bargain now I would think.

The 2011 doesn't understeer too much, but the front of the car feels noticeably heavier than the Boss 302.

Coming from someone who frequents GT500 forums a lot and does NOT own one...
Nearly 90% of the traction issues are solved by under $1k in suspension mods.

dont think so

not to mention unless you add aftermarket wheels, you cant find decent tires for **** and can only go as wide as 285 which is ridiculous for a car with 550hp stock.

the live axle is too much of a handling detriment on the street. perhaps a really good driver can make use of it, but on any poorly surfaced road or any rain or anything like that, the car is a handful to say the least.
