When can I order my M3 with M-DCT?

"Regular" (=MT) M3s can be ordered now and will be delivered from September. What I get from the current rumors, the M-DCT will be available around March '08 (always talking about Europe). So do you think an M3 with M-DCT can be ordered around December/January and will be delivered March '08? At least that's what I would hope for...

Would be nice if that were true. Not sure if it is though, but sounds logical. I am hoping BMW will surprise us and the M3 they debut at Frankfurt will have DCT/DSG.

Maybe... I think at least they will not wait until Geneva '08 to present the M-DCT, as the big news there will be the M3 convertible.

Good current info agrees they usually use March as a date for some additions M-DCT (or what ever should be there) US builds start in January but for Pre-release Magazine and Launch vehicles, I expect a launch in March 08 the Sedan likely will launch in America in September 08 an the Vert the the follwing March of 09

Cheers

In my opinion, DCT will be available only for delivery in May/June. By the way as it's really a new gearbox, my dealer advices to wait minimum 6 month after the first launch .... just to avoid being a "beta" tester of this new technology.

why? the transmission is under warranty. if the "beta" transmission is faulty, bmw will replace it.

Why does BMW offer cars with unreliable components...????
They should test before releasing to the public..... This wait 6 months makes no sense....

M3... i was responding to the premise of his comment, which i don't believe to be accurate. BMW won't release the trasnmission until it's tried and true, which is probably why it's not being released for many months after the M3's debut.

It's just an advice of my dealer, no more.... Agree that in case of BMW will replace it's boring when you buy a new car. In fact it seems that at the beginning of the M5 with the new SMG3 they had a lot of issues with the it and it's why he advices to wait a little bit.

Even so, I wouldn't want to be a guinea pig and have to deal with my car being in the shop because of failures.

And yes, they'll replace it, but if they're putting a faulty product out there, how long will it take them to find the fix?

You go ahead. I'll wait.

that's a pretty big if. manufacturers of bmw's repute don't just release new transmissions without extraordinary amounts of r&d. and given all that, i have absolutely no problem being the first on board for the new transmission. by the time you've sat by long enough to determine whether the dct is up to snuff... the rest of us will have owned and enjoyed the car for months and months and months.

By the way, I'm not able to wait 6 months more I've now ordered my car with manual gearbox and hope I will be delivered on September. In 2 years I can imagine to change to a convertible with DCT

I would do the same; I just can't afford the first-year-deprecation twice...
