I know a guy paying 3k a month on a bad real estate investment, another guy paying 4k in child support/alimony (don't get me started on how bad marriage is for your wallet), and another guy that is just plain irresponsible with his earnings. |

I am 24 years old. Me and my wife have decent paying jobs, $25/hr and $33/hr,respectively. I started working since I was 16 and started a savings account at 18. I paid for my college and earned a Criminal Justice degree. I own a 2013 e92 M3 that I bought pre-owned with 600 miles, but I DID NOT hurry to a big dealership and bought the first M3 I saw..
I waited for the right opportunity and I scored. I found it at a wholesale dealer, low mileage. I traded my older vehicle that I had paid off for 12k and put down 3k. I also took advantage of a special offer and got a good low interest rate. I drive the M3 everyday, as I can NOT imagine driving another car while the M3 sits in my garage. I would think about the M3, it would feel like cheating haha..Life is about being happy. Working hard and getting one of my dream cars at 24 makes me happy. |

Bought mine when I was 21 (just turned 23). It's actually not as hard as everyone thinks, for example: Stay in school, save up, build credit, find a decent paying career. There you have it!
Additionally, there is no reason to drop a large down payment on a vehicle. With interest rates so low on auto loans, you essentially pay nickles to the bank over time. Use that money and put it towards something else (house maybe?) Last edited by DopeM3; 09-17-2013 at 06:31 AM.. |

What, I'm just starting first year soon. You are so picky that's awesome. I paid for it on my own and live on my own. Did not been mom or pops to help me with anything. Well I was in two combat deployments, saved, paid my bills on time, and got a good job after. Now I'm 24.

No way I can pay for a brand new m3 at 23, paying an additional 150 a month for my insurance, (don't know how much people paying insurance when the car is brand new at $70k).
Parents helped me finance my business (instead of giving me money for school) and my businesses helps me finance my expensive car. Only bills on me is my car (insurance, gas, registration), phone, and gf. If I had kids and a mortgage, then I would of went a different direction. Also I know if you lease, it's always tax deductible (depending on your business).

Probably not the best advice, but people always told me that, "Once you get married, you'll most likely won't buy/afford it". So I took that advice. Yes, you're right... it's probably not the smartest financial decision. I sometimes feel bad for it. But hey, I got an M. lol |

For me it's a combination of #2 and #3. I just graduated from college as well and got a very nice paying job. My parents (love them) said they would buy the car but I opted to pay for some of the car. My payments would be equivalent to financing a new Ford Edge-equivalent car. Not only am I building more credit but I value my M3 so much more since I pay for it.

Finished emergency medicine residency recently. Most people on here still probably assume that all doctors are 35 or older. If you go straight through you finish (non surgical) residency at 28-29. |

of course. plenty left over to pay that off in <10 years and max out the 401k, and i have more loans than anyone i know.
it's just a matter of what is most important to you when you are done. I could have bought a 600k house instead but 250 will be fine. |
