KN actually has shown loss of power on other bimmers and by far has the worst filtering of any aftermarket ones.
Its a no brainer to go with BMC, MS or AA green filters. All about 100 bucks. If saving 40 dollars by buying a kN instead is important to you, then you should not be driving a m3 |

Beyond that, your statement doesn't make sense to me. How can it make less power (i.e. flow less) AND produce poor filtration? I highly doubt that. Seems to me it's either got to be one or the other. |

I did not mean on this car but there is some other cars with info floating around that KN lost some power. Ill see if I can dig them up. Biggest does not always mean best. Remember they also advertise 15-20hp gains and people buy into this. People will buy whatever they are told if marketed correctly

^That was aFe for the 350Z. The claimed ridiculous gains for their intakes for the 350Z yet people don't seem to have an issue with them here.
I just think it's a little reckless to make claims like that when people use threads like this to make decisions about what to buy. |

I personally think the noise that the aftermarket filters make is awful.
I'm probably going to take mine out. It might sound cool on a race car but on a street car it sounds like shit... there is a faint rattle rattle rattle under acceleration. Mine is an AA btw, but they all do this as far as I know. |

I think a lot of people like it because it's a noisemaker but personally I find it cheapens the experience a bit. Maybe I'd like it on a race car but not on my street M3. Here's 2 links to some discussion:

K&N has an average filtration efficiency of 98.69% vs stock paper (same as an AFE oiled filter). These averages vs stock don't vary that much between the top brands. I personally like AA green filter the best. If has an incredibly solid body which is less prone to the dreaded rattling. http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=481587

Same with my K&N...it in there really tight. Put about 4K miles on it so far and no complaints
