could you give us a little more detail? is it when low rpm high gear? when you step on the gas? heavy or light... is it a small whine/whistle?

normal noise

sorry about that. the noise is very noticible at idle once the vehicle has been warmed up. its a metallic noise in the lower portion of the engine at idle.
When i throttle the engine up slowly i can definatly hear the noise follow with the change in rpm's. I know what the injector and vanos noises sound like as well as the rattling clutch when the clutch pedal is releaced. I brought it to bmw's attention at 13,400 kms they told me to drive it for a bit to see if the noise got louder. I followed their direction and i could still hear the noise. So the next step was directed from bmw canada apperantly there are only a few m3's that have this issue so there isn't a TSB as of yet. At 17,500 they preformed they're so called fix for this noise where they disassembled my bottom end for the procedure of (re torquing my bedplate) and they said will fix the issue at hand. I got a call from my service (specialist) bs in my opinion and he said the noise was completly gone whitch in fact it was not. I am now waiting for the gret bmw canada to get back to me. All in all I do not understand why they do not have solid answers for this issue as the car has been in production for some time now. I do not really know how to approach this issue as ive been back n forth to the dealer numerous times and these guys keep playing me (I feel)
Any help would be much appreciated.

Side note whats bmw's policy on replacement engines. I just thought it was a bit odd that on a motorsport product with such low kms hearing a engine noise in witch no other m3's
on the dealers lot were even making any noises mine was making. It just feels like they are pushing me off. I know i still have 60,000 and three years left on my warrenty but i would just like to have better answers. I wasn't pleased having my brand new car taken apart at 17kms but they assured me that they're technicians were top tier bmw trained.
If a tech was so great would you not think he would remember to completly tighten all of my airbox fastners!!!! This is just what i saw once i got my car home and opened my hood!!
What else could he have forgot???? WTF

Since I have TWO (2) M3s, let me put your mind at ease.

At idle they BOTH make all kinds of noise, but they do smooth out after a minute or so. While driving, yes the M3 does sound different than most cars, but that’s why we bought that amazing V8. I hardly even turn on the radio because I love that engine sound.

The clutch (on my E92 M3 coupe, the Sedan is DCT) hell yes it chatters, but who cares as long as it shifts.

The door on my E90 M3 sedan, creeks (common with sedans) when you open and close it, but when it’s closed and I am driving it doesn’t, so again, who cares as long as I can open the door.

I think what I am trying to say is most German cars are going make some kind of noise, so like others have said, just enjoy the car. Also, DON’T get anything fixed or replaced unless it affects the drivability of the car.

My service guy stated that if he writes up let’s say five (5) 335s, that the hood alignment will be different on all of them.

OP what you are describing could be normal. The M3 is a very noisy car. It rattles, it creeks. I wouldn't worry about it unless it affects the way the car drives. Don't fix what isn't broken.

couple other questions... is the car fully warmed? clutch depressed? only in idle? are you sure it is coming from the engine area? could be the exhaust.

Yes the engine is fully warmed up and the clutch is depressed. It makes the noise after a good run..
I know the engine is very vocal during the warmup cycle. I can clearly hear all of the other noises inj, vanos, exhaust, clutch to me this is not related to any of these systems. If in fact it is a normal noise why will bmw not admit to it. All they say is we are investigating

Could you post a video? Some noises are normal, some are not...

Yes this is so true. Car engine is noisy here and there. Sometimes sounds clunky at cold starts. Doesn't idle like a Lexus. But shit, it drives like a champ. And as long as it continues to rev and shift, I won't stress and listen for that crap anymore.

I spent the first 10k miles stressing about sounds and noises that I couldn't even enjoy the car. Then it made me even question the reliability of the brand and M division itself...so looking back, I ask myself, has the car ever not started when I pushed the start button? Or not perform or delivery power when I wanted it?

The answer is No. My car has been great and extremely reliable. Don't stress man, just drive the piss out of it and have fun
