Clearcoat repair from emblem removal

I've removed emblems, pin striping, decals, etc, off of many cars. Took the trunk emblems off my 330i, no issues. I use my heat gun to soften up the adhesive and voila, magic. In fact, my wife's Jetta had old pin striping that was a PITA to remove. I had to get it nice and hot, almost too hot to touch, to get it to come off. Last evening, I proceeded to heat up the M3 emblem on the rear trunk (it was faded and needed to come off) to prep it for the gloss black M3 that I ordered. Emblem came off fine, when I went to remove the tape with my fingernail, the clear came off as well. I didn't realize it was the clear until it was too late. The rear has been re-painted but I have never seen clear do this for me. Now I did order the slightly larger F80 M3 emblems and it looks like it will cover most of this. I applied my touch-up clear to most of this and is there a way to "blend" this in as to not be too obvious? Again, the new emblem will cover the worst parts.

In the pics, it really looks like it got into the base coat as well, and if so no easy fix. If just clearcoat, it could be wet sanded, sprayed and buffed. If it is into the base coat, it would have to be blended and clear coated.

Yeah, I am astonished that it did get into the base so easily. I'm pretty sure the "M" section of the M3 will cover that part. It's the clearcoat section on the lower right that might not get covered and could use blended. UGH!!!!

That sucks to see. Not a DIY fix. All you can do is very carefully and slowly use touchup paint + clear. A body shop would need to fix it -- perhaps sanding and blending since it's a small panel.

I "fixed" it for now. I can revisit it later. I touched it up and cleared it. Wet sanded it to smooth it out. Then installed the new emblem over it. You can still see it a bit but only up close. The paint it at least protected until it get permanently fixed. The emblem is just a smidgen lower than factory (only a few mm) but it was required to cover the largest area of the damage.

You can see the damage better here but it is actually smooth. This color is VERY hard to match with just a touch-up bottle for anything larger than a rock chip. Cleared and sanded smooth is the best I can do.

That's not so bad. Most people won't even see it unless they're looking directly at the emblem.

Always remove these with fishing line. Heat guns on paint is not a good idea. Just for future reference....sorry man..
