Today, that 65 mph could probably go up to 80 mph, but with the poor quality of the roads and, more importantly, the fact that you have to have absolutely ZERO abilities to get a driver's license at all, makes for a dangerous combination. In Germany the autobahn is designed to have long sweeping corners and turns that are supportive of higher speeds. There is no way that most stateside highways would be able to do that.
Oh c'mon! We are talking 65mph here, not 120+mph.

I even know some roads in NJ, NY that are dangerous the drive the posted limit... at least dangerous for the health of your car...

It's all in the name of business...
1. police officer (lowest degree) has work
2. lawyers have work
3. judges have work
4. State has income through fines and income taxes!

Last summer I drove from Aberdeen Scotland to St Andrews for a few days of golf.

On the way down the only time I dropped below 100 mph was when I saw the speed cameras on the side of the road. Traffic cruised at 90 to 100 mph the whole way except for when everyone slowed down for the speed camaras.

I'd be all for having cops actually solve real crimes and would put up with fixed cameras if they put them in places that were known for high incidents of severe collisions. That's what the law was supposed to do in the first place wasn't it...keep us safe, not act as a legalized way to pick our pockets?

Although if you think we have it bad in North America go to Norway. National speed limt is 50 mph. Although like the UK they use the cameras in areas where there is high potential for collision. Of course in that the Norwegian highways are virtually empty I beat that poor little Octavia (and still managed 35 miles to the gallon!) for a record cross country time.

About 2 months later Hertz presented me with a camera ticket for $842!!

Apprarently I was going about 100 in a 50 zone....

It sounds like in Virginia I would have been introduced to my new room-mate - a bald guy named Debbie...

Mental note, Do not visit Virginia - too bad, looks like a nice place otherwise.

This country would be entirely different had we not annexed Texas and just left VA to the confederates.

I was doing about 10mph over, no bullshit! In areas like that, the cops have nothing better to do than to give out tickets. They should be out pulling over uHals that have illegal immagrents in them instead!
I was back in New Mexico this last Dec/Jan for some flight training and durring the X-mas week off, I rented a car and drove to visit a friend in AZ then drove to El Paso to party it up for new year. I bet I saw over 10
F&*king cops pulling people over on a dam desert highway and no one, and I mean no one was driving reckless. I bet the fasted anyone was driving was around 70-75mph on a dam endless stretch of highway with a posted 65mph obserd slow limit.

I can't stand driving in the States after living in Europe. It drives me nuts when I'm back home. People in the States are dam paranoid to pass and so many people end up doing 66 in the fast lane of a 65mph highway drives me Fucking nuts! You get behind them and they won't move because their to God Dam stupid to figure out that's the passing lane. I had this fat dumb Bitch do exactly that in New Mexico along with many other bone head drivers.

I'm gonna hate driving my M3 back in the States. I can cruise at 100mph+ for miles on end here and no one pulls me over. In England you got to watch out though but in Germany, Italy, France, I've done 120mph in the passing lanes along with traffic and no worries of stupid fat donut *** eating lazy cops pulling you over. They should just sell cars in the States with speed limiters at 75mph if their gonna screw us all the time with speeding tickets. Sorry fella's, it makes my blood boil hearing about stupid speed restrictions back home. Hope you beet the ticket.

Hear Hear!

Nice job. How much did that end up costing you? Or was this pro bono from a friend?

Man, in Texas they don't even put down their Lattes if you are going under 90 in a 70 zone.

I agree about the driving in the US too.... People just don't get it. If I am in the fast lane and I am going faster than you.. MOVE OVER! I don't care if you think your traveling "fast enough".. if I could I would run you off the road. And the acceleration from any red light.. ahh.. come on.. STEP ON IT!! Do people have any guts behind the wheel in other parts of the world?

Same phenomenon here in this country SWEDEN
At red light people see the green light, engage the clutch move the stick release the clutch, slowly. Next guy in line, wakes up- the car in front of him is moving! And the next and so on

On highways itīs 70 mph
People here still believe itīs leftlane traffic like in England.
They hardly never move aside. Most common is a slow Volvo doing 60-70 collecting traffic behind--- and the first in que doesnīt do anything. Just sits there. And the second... often traffic in right lane is faster

Should I get a 118d?
