I even know some roads in NJ, NY that are dangerous the drive the posted limit... at least dangerous for the health of your car...
It's all in the name of business... 1. police officer (lowest degree) has work 2. lawyers have work 3. judges have work 4. State has income through fines and income taxes!

Last summer I drove from Aberdeen Scotland to St Andrews for a few days of golf.
On the way down the only time I dropped below 100 mph was when I saw the speed cameras on the side of the road. Traffic cruised at 90 to 100 mph the whole way except for when everyone slowed down for the speed camaras. I'd be all for having cops actually solve real crimes and would put up with fixed cameras if they put them in places that were known for high incidents of severe collisions. That's what the law was supposed to do in the first place wasn't it...keep us safe, not act as a legalized way to pick our pockets? Although if you think we have it bad in North America go to Norway. National speed limt is 50 mph. Although like the UK they use the cameras in areas where there is high potential for collision. Of course in that the Norwegian highways are virtually empty I beat that poor little Octavia (and still managed 35 miles to the gallon!) for a record cross country time. About 2 months later Hertz presented me with a camera ticket for $842!! Apprarently I was going about 100 in a 50 zone.... It sounds like in Virginia I would have been introduced to my new room-mate - a bald guy named Debbie... Mental note, Do not visit Virginia - too bad, looks like a nice place otherwise.

Aren't they still looking for "2 white guys in a white box-truck?" (The snipers from 7 years ago) |

I agree about the driving in the US too.... People just don't get it. If I am in the fast lane and I am going faster than you.. MOVE OVER! I don't care if you think your traveling "fast enough".. if I could I would run you off the road. And the acceleration from any red light.. ahh.. come on.. STEP ON IT!! Do people have any guts behind the wheel in other parts of the world?

Same phenomenon here in this country SWEDEN At red light people see the green light, engage the clutch move the stick release the clutch, slowly. Next guy in line, wakes up- the car in front of him is moving! And the next and so on On highways itīs 70 mph People here still believe itīs leftlane traffic like in England. They hardly never move aside. Most common is a slow Volvo doing 60-70 collecting traffic behind--- and the first in que doesnīt do anything. Just sits there. And the second... often traffic in right lane is faster Should I get a 118d? |
