Rear camera

I have been researching on these rear cameras, which by the way I have no idea why BMW had the idea that it wasn't necessary on the U.S. Market. Any ways.... I have found several, Bimmer retrofit is the best up to now. I do like the specs on this camera and the best is that it comes with the harness for a non invasive installation and $425 is not a bad deal. What have you guys installed in your queen? And can someone do a DIY thread on this?

I just recently did a DIY camera kit/install on my car. If you can live without the dynamic parking lines (static parking lines are an option though) and obstacle marking this is the cheapest route possible. It cost me ~$150 in parts and its truly plug and play. I had Alex@alpine remote code it for me, great job as always.

Check this thread out on the sister forum:

Its all pretty easy and considering you have me here to ask questions, I'd be glad to answer them!

I have the same setup, along with a front camera, and both work great!

I have the dynamic lines and I can honestly live without it. I've never really needed it but having the static guide lines are awesome.

The Bimmertech unit I have has a great camera with really good low light resolution.
I've found that if I blip the gearshift in reverse really quick and put it back in D, the rear camera will stay on until I cancel it from iDrive.
Gimmicky but cool.

There's another vendor that sells a kit that does not need coding. Mine needed coding but was not a hassle.

You should have posted this thread in the Audio/Nav section though ;-)

Why wouldn't it work with CIC retrofit. If you can get the CIC work for the car with FSC and all other things, I just can't understand why a camera retrofit won't work.
