Longer crank times at startup - anyone else?

Over the past month or so I've noticed my car is cranking longer on cold starts. It usually happens after the car's been sitting for at least 6 hours, if not longer. The cranking time is not hugely different, but enough to where it's easily noticed. When the engine does fire up it sounds strong. The cranking itself also sounds strong, so I don't think it's a weak battery.

My first thought was maybe the fuel pump or filter?

Anyone else experience something like this?

i have noticed this as well. but so far no problems with my car. i have also heard other v8s and v10s (bmw m5) start up after not being used for more than a day and it seems like the cranks are pretty long as well. i dont think this issue is limited to our cars.

I'm currently experiencing this. In the time I've owned the car, I've noticed that initial turnover before ignition is significantly longer than when first acquired.

I've noticed in the morning, there is a slight hitch in starting. Throughout the day it fires up fine. One time, the engine wouldn't completely turn over. I had to release the clutch and restart to get it to catch. Otherwise, the car drives fine.

I JUST started experiencing this too, I've had the car for 6 months (6MT). I talked to a tech and he's charging the battery with some new "million dollar" machine. If there is any change I will report back.

Out of curiosity, which dealer do you use?

I've noticed this as well over the last few months, but haven't though about it too much. My car is dct.

6MT car here, and I notice it for sure.

If the car has sat overnight or more, it take 1-2 seconds till it turns over. If I have fired it up within the last 6-8 hours it starts right up.

Not sure if it is battery related as I do believe I am still on the original battery.

its not the battery as i just changed mine out about 6 months ago and it still does this from time to time. Is it possible it is the spark plugs? i have never changed mine, i have 27k miles. 08 6MT

Jordane92 sending you PM.

I had my spark plugs changed a few thousand miles ago, so I don't think that's it.

I've had the same issue for quite some time. It can sit all day at work and start up just fine, but if it sits overnight it'll crank considerably longer. Runs fine, though, and I haven't had any problems.

I am having the same issue with my 2011 at 22k. Started noticing about 6-7 months ago. Always on first start up in the morning. I was wondering if these were the signs of a bad fuel bump or the dreaded ICV. I remember when I had my 335 and the HPFP was starting on its way out I began experiencing longer cranks as well. My car runs fine but has made me a bit paranoid.

If it's running fine, I wouldn't be too worried about it. Now if the car refuses to start the first time (and maybe throws a code), that's when I'd start investigating. Probably ICV, but I wouldn't worry about it too much yet. The M3 just likes to be driven

In my older cars this problem would mean a fuel pump relay issue.

I'm having this issue as well, '11 DCT. Throughout the day the car runs great and has no problems with a long crank, but takes a bit longer and always starts in the mornings after sitting all night.
