Polished ZCP 359Ms

Has anyone tried taking their 359M's into a wheel refinisher to get it redone in a high polished scheme? Is there any disadvantages of doing this to a cast wheel? Thinking about doing it.... got a quote for $100 a wheel.

I'm not talking about chrome here - just polished, like the Morr VS.

Can't comment on the safety of this, but I would be interested to see how this turns out. I think it would look great - the ZCPs already have an almost polished look to them, as it is.

Might as well go with chrome if that's the look you're going for. Very similar look, but the chrome is much easier to clean.

That style of wheel is a pain to clean as is, wouldn't want to clean a polished version on a regular basis.

I'd be down for a machined face, especially if you could make the back portion dark grey like the BMW Performance wheels. See below...

Yes a machined or brushed finish would look really nice. Ask FLOSS to do it, this guy takes wheels to another level. How much of a polish are you thinking about? You could have it done and if you want to add a little more depth you could leave the face and paint the inners a charcoal or silver.

It won't hurt the wheel at all I have had polished wheels on my other cars just be prepared to sit there and clean them for a while if the wheels are raw finish and not clear coated. Me personally I love the raw finish but don't enjoy cleaning them as much anymore. Another advantage to leaving them raw, if you scratch them a little, you could just wet sand that spot and get imperfections out yourself with a little polish and time.

Its safe as long as they don't have to take like 5mm of metal to get imperfections out.

Depends on which you're referring to, but usually our VS8.2 we do in Brushed/Cleared. If you're talking about the order VS8 and such (where the inner-spokes were black or silver and the face bright), then it was machined/cleared.

Hope this helps - cheers!!!

I have a set of used ZCP's on the way and will get all the curbed area repaired, then finishing it in shadow chrome (E39 M5 wheels are finished this way).

Why am I doing it? Because as much as I'd like a set of brand new wheels for $3k + tires, I'm more comfortable paying what I'm paying while still putting a personal touch on my car.

I have gone as far as using a compound and polish to remove some light scratches and swirls. Sounds like the OP wants to lay down a new finish on the wheels

Two completely different things

Agreed. Plus IMHO, it hides the crazy design of the ZCP's.
I'm contemplating powdercoating mine. Thinking similar finish to BBS' Diamond Black finish.
