Just scraped a wheel along the metal where it meets the edge of the tire. About 4 inches long, as if you took a file and rubbed off the finish leaving a rough edge of exposed, unfinished metal. Width is only a fraction of an inch, but upsetting of course. Suggestions?

Wheel repair shop, no big deal, will cost ~$100-125 depending on the shop. We've all had those f-ck! moments, don't let it get to you...

Dealer could recommend a shop, but make sure you verify with others. I'd post a note in one of the regional forums on this board and ask for a recommendation. Where are you?

BTW, are these the OEM 18s (style 219) or OEM 19s (style 220?) The latter can be a hard finish to match.

Please take a pic and post it up...if you use one of those mobile companies they basically sand down the grind and touch up the paint. Issue with this method is it looks great for awhile but then you notice that brake dust sticks to where ever the repair was done..I know, I did this route and it was done at a BMW dealership. If you keep up on cleaning it all the time and waxing the built up dust it will still look good. The other alternative is dismounting the wheel and tire and have the whole wheel refinished which is about $150.00. This does not include the remounting of the tire and re-balancing though.

I was recommending refinishing, not touch up. Here it is about $120 all in per wheel (or was the last time I did it.) Agree with Dave, don't go with a mobile touch up.

Yea if I was to do it all over again I would have the wheel refinished. I was pressed for time, didn't have an extra set of wheels laying around and didn't want to shell out the extra money..wish I did now.

220M's are much harder to refinish and many shops won't even touch them whereas the 219's are easy because they're painted. If you have 220M's, expect the repair to cost a little more once you find the shop. Also, be careful choosing your shop and make sure they have experience with this rim because the brushed finish is hard to replicate and they have to deal with the clear coat.

220s take a top notch guy to do as getting the look right is very hard. surface looks machined so have to replicate. have had one done at seattle wheel and he did very good job.

If you're repairing 220's, go to Martino Auto Concepts - they did one of mine and it looks like-new. If 219/359's then you have more options as those are easier.

I just had a wheel repaired similar to what you are describing. I had dealer do it and was perfect finish for $125. Considering I got a loaner and they said if I wasn't satisfied they would do whatever it takes to make me happy I figured it was a good deal.
