I'm keeping my car until it dies or I die
Not worried about resale value on something I am keeping!

It's NOT the finished example (sound, performance or appearance).. It's rather amazing how many people judge it right off the bat, when the car is still a couple of years away from production... It may not "sound" like a 70-90K car but it may perform like one when the finished product comes along. Also, 75% (or more) of us place aftermarket exhausts on our cars (to enhance the sound) so, how will this car be any different???

The legendary 911 Turbo sounds like a vacuum cleaner and goes like stink. It still costs $100K+ and its not have as practical. I have no doubt that M will churn out a fine product even it goes turbo.
I already know that my current M will be the last from the division. It offers everything that brought me to M. High Rev Peformance/Handling/Speed/Practicality and Sound (the screaming anthem for ages). Going forward-I don't see anything that wows me save for a better 0-60 time and slightly better weight and steering geometry. BUT-if its turbo'ed away-I'm better off switching to an EVO or Subi. If the sound of the F10 M5 is anything to go by-my current V8 is a sure-fire keeper. |

I think resale will be hampered more by gas climbing to $5+ a gallon. And the maintenance on these cars will be more expensive than people can afford. Look at depreciation on the 7 series! A $90k car depreciating to $10k still requires the maintenance expense of a $90k car! |

Resale will depend on the buyer. After the next gen M3 is out for a few years, the community will split between turbo enthusiasts and N/A enthusiasts. The cherry condition, low mileage V8 M3's will bring good money from those N/A enthusiasts who have worn out their V8 M3 but want to stay N/A.
This is going to be a fundamental shift in M3 history. Each generation since the E30 had an N/A motor with successive larger displacement and added cylinders up to the E92. They will all be categorized within an "era" of M3 development, probably the N/A era that lasted over 20 years. It might be safe to say that for the next two-three generations of M3, FI will be dominant. With that, the buyer who is going to pay top dollar for an M3 five years from now will be an N/A enthusiast who wants a garage queen. So if your car is garage queen quality in five years, I would bet you will find a buyer willing to pay a decent amount of money.

Also, if you own a car that is too rare, ther is no community, no aftermarket, it is difficult to service, nobody knows WTF it is, etc. M3 is good. Limited enough to be exclusive, sufficient enough not be an unrecognizable PITA.

There will be "tons" of E9X's that are lease returns and/or are beat the hell up. Some will have spent their lives outdoors, driving over snow+salt. Some will have horribly worn leather, ugly colors, sunroofs, etc. All these factors will lower the value significantly for probably 90% of all E9X's in the US. These are the cars that will end up in the 10-15k range long term.
