Valentine needs to team with Garmin and come out with a nav unit with a build in V1. That way it could also show you any photo radar or speed radars in you path... and look like any other Nav unit.

Greg,
I second your claim that most cops use Lidar around Portland. It saved my rear end many times in the past but now it hardly makes a peep. So much so I almost wander if my V1 is broken. I get more noise from the GM vehicles with park distance control. I will think hard about a laser jammer when I purchase the new car........ Greg |

To further complicate things... what about the 9500ci with convenience of permanent remote mount?
Other than the fact that it's laser jammer doesn't hold a candle to the Laser Interceptor, from a radar and mount perspective, isn't that a solid option?

The software version 3.813 seems to work very good and there is no need to do soft upgrade. Plus you will save some $$$ as well. I have Both 3.813 and brand new V1 with latest soft and I like 3.813 better. You can also custom program your V1. |

Legalese
Radar detectors are legal in all states except Virgina, as well as DC and on any military base. Laser jammers are illegal in California and a few other states: http://www.guysoflidar.com/usa-laser-jammer-laws.html

The V1 is my choice. I've had mine for many years. (It's the model where the case is a little thicker than it is now.) I've had Escorts and Passports in the past.
Other high end detectors (Escort 9500** and BEL STI) are pretty good too. However, this GPS thing is a bit misunderstood. It seems that it doesn't always work so well. It will definitely cut down on the "chatter" of the detector, but I've read some cases where it also kept the unit silent where it should have been sounding an alert. The V1 also has those arrows telling you where the radar/laser is coming from, which is very helpful. It is not a remote install detector but they do have a remote display and switch unit for the V1. If you can get the main unit concealed pretty well and install these two little boxes in a clever place then it's almost as good as those "remote" mount units (and a heck of a lot cheaper). If you really want GPS get a speed cheetah (google it) and hook it up with the V1. CB radios or a radio scanner that picks up CB is extremely helpful. Laser jammers help a lot too. In the end however, these things are only an aid. They do not tell you where the cops are. It's really a matter of driving smarter. Learn where radar/laser can be used and how. Pay attention to the road! Look far ahead and be ready to slow down. Cheers.

Do you guys think that the V1 produces too many false positives? Some of my friends that have them won't even bother using them driving in the city because they get so many false positives.

Yes, lots of false positives in the city. But so do most other detectors. X-band is not used around here so I turned that off and I get, I'd say, a good 80% less falses now. (Don't do this in NJ because they still use X-band radars there. Check your local area for X-band too before turning it off.) Also, most of my driving is not in the city. It's kind of hard to go fast in the city anyway with all the traffic so turning it off isn't such a big deal.
Cheers.
