2012 E92 M3 or 2012 Dodge Charger SRT8?

Both of these cars occupy a special place in my heart, and every time I see either one, I'm in love. I've done a lot of homework on both cars, researched the respective numbers and figures, read up on several reviews, I even test drove an SRT8 Charger too, haven't gotten around to driving an E92 yet though. I'm just torn between them. I understand this is a BMW forum, but what do you guys think would be a better choice? I'm planning on using it as a daily driver, with VERY occasional track use. Not planning on modifying or tuning them much either, as of yet.

Agreed on every count. I took a ride in a new Charger this weekend. GREAT engine note, but man the rest of it felt cheap.

Zzzzzzzzzzz. Completely different levels of automotive sophistication. The only thing that may be somewhat comparable is the straight line performance.

No way would I do the Charger unless it was steeply discounted. Even then it is a huge car and styling is not to my liking. The only thing comparable with the M3 is straight line power.

I actually like the styling of the charger from the rear. Only available in an auto though....

Hello no to the Charger/Challenger. I'm not just saying this because I own an M3 either. Drive an M3 and you'll understand. There's no comparison to be made.

Like any vehicle, a test drive should provide you with the answer. Styling is subjective. I prefer the styling of the older charger but the new one doesn't look bad. However given a choice, I would go for a M3. Cleaner design, better built and great all-around performance.

For some reason the Charger V6 gets a ZF 8AT while the SRT8 has a 5 speed auto. It is based on a Mercedes design dating back to the 96 E-class. TBH if you are going American you should look at a CTS-V.

Wow, guess I just fell in love with the Dodge then, you guys seem to find like no redeeming feature vs the M3. I will test drive an M3, though, probably get one too. Better quality, ride, handling, more luxurious, etc. And it doesn't come with a tranny made from the toenail clippings of an old E-Class.... but you gotta admit, that HEMI has quite the appeal. I heard it once and I was hooked on it, lol.

A nice compromise would be a C63...basically a muscle car that handles well. In the end you gotta go with your gut regardless of what folks are saying.

one advantage of the Charger is that everyone slows down and gets out of your way on the highway when you come zooming up

Before switching to my M3, I had an 06 Charger SRT8.... It was a beast. Fast in a straight line and lots of room. All I did was an intake, full exhaust, Diablo Predator tune, and a CO2 air/fuel cooling system on the car. I think thats all I ended up liking about it. I hated that the interior was all plastic. Rattled all the time. Mood roof always came loose and I had to tighten it. The car just didn't handle well either.

When I started looking around for the all around package, I knew I wanted the M3. Great handling car, fast, looks good, built strong, and interior is nice.... Doesn't really matter all that much but the M3, gets better gas mileage.

Again, this is all from the 06 model. Don't know much about the new model.... As a former SRT8 owner, I would say M3 any day....

If you like torque, you will prefer the Charger. If you like to rev the engine way up to get power, you will prefer the M3. You may want to test drive a DCT M3 since it will do the shifting for you to best access that high rpm power.

You need to drive an M3 then come back here and you'll have you're own answer. Thats the only reason you're still even considering the Charger. I had the same obsession with Camaro vs M3 a while back. Once I drove the M the rest was history
