Red face When I Just Got Over The C63 & P31 Package Benz Does This...

i just got over the p31 package and the c63 and ruled that out and was definately going with a m3 with the competition pack comming up but then benz does this...

keep the hp/tq numbers good and pricing the same with all the discounts and im bound to go to the dark side competition pack or new m3 development info better be good .

2011 C63 now to get new 5.5L v8 Twin Turbo Direct Injection Engine

http://www.worldcarfans.com/10912152...turbo-55-liter

Mercedes-Benz is plotting to replace the naturally aspirated 6.3-liter (6208cc) AMG V8 with a twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8 engine by 2011. The move was confirmed in an Inside Line interview with Daimler R&D board member Dr. Thomas Weber.

Weber says the new engine could appear on cars in the fourth quarter of 2010 following an official reveal at September's Paris Motor Show. The currently-used V8 puts out between 450- and 520-horsepower, producing up to 440 ft-lb of torque for some models, and around 465 ft-lb for others. Fuel economy is rated around 12 mpg city, 16-19mpg highway.

With the new engine, Mercedes could be looking to up these economy figures, while reducing emissions. Simultaneously, the German automaker will not be looking to sacrifice performance, as that could damage AMG sales.

Aside from confirming the new engine, Dr. Weber also says that every customer purchasing a 2011 Mercedes-Benz unit with a V8 will get a turbocharged variant.

wow... that leaves the RS4, RS5, M3 really behind... shit!

LOL even BMW thinks they're going all hot with the 6-cyl TT for the NEXT gen M3... that seems like it's already behind.

how about Merc works on a 6 or 7MT transmission? come on goddamn it, you do a fast car and put a clutch in it!

any dual clutch info?

Good day good sirs,

The development of the introduction of the 5.5 V8 turboed C-class is a reason not to buy the Merc, not a reason TO buy it.

Wow, looks like as always, low revving, boring torque monsters are the newest fad. RIDICULOUS. MAKES ME SICK.

Cheers,

Now that sounds pretty intimidating.

Extremely excited to see how all the competition battles it out with their upcoming models.

Scrap engine design for the next gen M3. BMW is back to square 1.
They say 450-520HP. These will be released putting about 550HP at least.

Aha, but he stopped short of saying that all AMG models that have a V8 today will also have a V8 in 2011.

Not that I am betting they will drop the V8 for the C class AMG model, but they have done it before (W202 C43 => V203 C32) so I would not yet rule it out.

If they do put the turbo V8 in the new C class AMG (which would become the C55), then it will probably be just a matter of tune to get 600hp+, and that will indeed be insane.

yah but too late for that talk now... BMW already decided to go FI on next Gen. and if BMW is gonna create a boring lazy low revving engine too then it might as well be at least as powerful as the low revving, boring torque monster that Merc is making.

Porsche, please please keep manual transmissions and some powerful NA engines, please please please!!!

This potentially makes the current m3 more appealing. Looks like we are the last of a breed. Everyone is going FI. I personally LOVE winding my motor up past 8k rpms.

I have mixed feelings. Although I like my n/a (both of them), keeping up the rpms is only feasible in a place where you can really do it (i.e., the track.)

The TT motors will allow for real world everyday driving fun with explosive low end torque. In a crowded world with just the occasional open freeway on ramps, that's the appeal of FI motors.

Also environment, mpg, and weight and size, are now the real considerations for the mfgs. FI with DI is the only way to do it economically. The days of big displacement are over.

There is nothing boring about experiencing what 500+ hp and close to 500 ft-lbs torque is like in my M156 equipped car. Forget 0-60. 70-120 is flat out scary in terms of how quick it happens. I only can imagine what a these cars will feel like stock, let alone tuned.

Yep, I think that is right, 450bhp for the CClass on the other figure for the rest.

We do when we're in our other cars.

The MBs are just our daily drivers. Cruising in total comfort and blowing your doors off on the freeway when you're hogging the left lane.
