Cant buy shit for 15k that will work on the track and be enjoyable or reliable. Ive seen and driven lots of low budet racers and they are always problems. Instead of maintaing 2 cars put 15k into a BBK and spend the rest on gas tires, pads and fees.
You wont crash your car unless you do something really stupid or panic. I have worked with hundreds of clients (I'm a coach) and never had someone crash their car, a dozen 4 off's but nobody has ever hurt their car by hitting anything. Be smart and jsut dont worry about it. Last edited by TheYoungConnoisseur; 06-03-2013 at 03:48 PM.. |

I recently started racing and wow is it fun! It's totally different! TTs are to archery what racing is to basketball.
If money is the issue, I would consider buying a ready-to-go racecar. It's going to be more expensive to do it yourself bit by bit. The other advice above I think is great, especially looking at what class you want to race in. Be sure you have competition to race with! It's absolutely no fun to be running in a class alone -- it's worse than running last in a field, because at least if you're last, you have people to chase and push you to get better. When you run alone, you may as well be doing time trials. I've seen BMWs running NASA GTS-2 sell for $15k on the low side. E36 M3s are more around $20k and up. You can probably expect to have to spend a bit on some fixes and/or improvements. And then there are the tires, brakes, brake fluid, fuel. And don't forget the safety gear! Fire suit, helmet with HANS, gloves, shoes, socks, underwear (depending upon your suit rating).... |

I had a E36 M3 racecar that was worth right around $15k that ran like a top with just fuel, tires, and brake changes. Many cars in that price range can be reliable and fun.
