Do your friends' modded 335i and E46M3 run away from you on the highway? Seems like even the full bolt on package of pulley, tune, intake, catless midpipe, and aftermarket exhaust would not be enough to beat them. You would have to supercharge.

I would think a 100 lbs rwtq advantage to the 335i would be hard to overcome even if rwhp between were equal rather than also favoring the 335i. The lower ratio diff of the M3 only offsets a fraction of the torque difference. The little N54 twin turbo is a great engine (especially with a few mods) though it lacks the character of the S65. I have an N54 in a 535xi and the S65 in an M3.

Wow. That is uncanny. Last summer, I dynoed my car with a couple friends as well - our cars sound quite similar to your group!
Me - e92 M3 - ESS tune, pulley, Full Akra Evolution, Macht Schnell air filter e46 M3 - VF Stage ONE supercharger, filter, exhaust (no idea what the filter and exhaust were) e92 335 - Vishnu chip tune, catless exhaust. I don't have our exact numbers to hand for the dyno (I am quite sure I went 366whp and 276wtq), but on highway pulls, we were all very, VERY close - strange, how we had completely different cars and set ups, but I slowly pulled on the 335, and stayed ahead, whereas I pulled away from the S/C e46 M3 up until about 240kph, when he caught me, and pulled away slowly (all runs done in Mexico, of course ). It really was surprising how extremely close all three cars were. Made for a GREAT driving trip, when the three of us went down through Montana/Oregon, through some fantastic back roads!!! FWIW, I would think the stage 2 e46 M3 would murder my car.

Depends really
after 120 the M shouldn't have a problem but lower speeds the 335 will be pretty hard to beat a modded 335i can be a monster

Mike Rad's a good guy. He installed and tuned the AEM EMS on my E36 turbo. Congrats getting to a dyno!
And I understand the 335i's have some nice torque, and it may just be me, but I enjoy driving the M3 more. And I had a 335 for 2 years..

Who says? GIAC is the most aggressive tune in VW world. I would think that their BMW software is aggressive as well.
