▀▄ eas | ESS E-Flash Dyno Results: 09 M3 with bolt-ons

Just wanted to share a recent ESS E-Flash before/after dyno session on a 2009 M3 with some minor bolt-ons. The only thing missing was a performance flash tune.

ESS's E-Flash was immediately added and the M3 strapped to the dyno. The results were very impressive.

Vehicle
2009 BMW M3 DCT

Modifications
Macht Schnell Performance Filter
Fabspeed Resonated X-Pipe (primary catalysts intact)
Rogue UnderDrive Pulley
Remus Race axleback

Options
[X] Update to 240E (previously on 200E OS)
[X] Remove cold start cat heat cycle/camshaft phasing (for smoother cold starts)
[X] Retain OEM Rev limiter (customer specified)
[X] Remove top speed governor/VMAX

M3 was originally on 200E OS, which was updated to 240E before applying the ESS flash tune. Plugs were already changed approximately 500mi ago as part of scheduled maintenance.

As you can see, gains are achieved throughout the entire powerband. Those with 93 at the pump can expect even better results

If I purchased an NA ESS tune, could I upgrade it to a boosted tune if I purchased a used supercharger say six months down the road? Or would that cost me extra?

You would use the same E-Flash cable.

The tune is already provided with the systems.

Yeah, I understand the tune is included with a NEW system, what if I bought a used kit here on the forums? Would ESS upgrade my tune at no extra cost?

No, there is still a software transfer fee on used systems, prices vary from manufacturers.

ESS includes the E-Flash cable with the tune, VF charges an additional $250 for the hardware interface in addition to the tune. This can be waived if you would like to ship your DME directly for flashing, but I would highly recommend using the cable as it can be extremely useful for updates and diagnostics.

Interface cables are married to the vehicle they were originally coded to. They cannot be used on any other vehicle.

Could you PM me the upgrade price? I would like to get an ESS NA tune now with the intention of purchasing a used ESS supercharger a little bit down the road.

Hey Tom, would you be able to in the future log the dyno runs to display whether or not the cars are hitting their timing targets? That would say a lot. FOr example if this car had the shown gain of 15hp or so and was still far off from hitting the timing targets of 34 degrees up top, this would give some more real data for other users to know how much more room of improvement they may have.

Or if a car that did not have a strong improvement with a tune, we could see if it simply had trouble hitting timing targets, rather than just assume the car did "not respond" as well as others etc.

Timing, IAT and a couple others with each dyno would be so valuable.

I would also love to see back to back 91 octane run with 95 octane run with a tune and timing tables. I know when I mix for 95 octane vs 91 or 93, the timing targets are hit whereas they are tough to hit on 91 and even on 93

Runs 3 & 4 are identical to 2 & 6. No need.

Will keep this in mind, we can log this data as well.

The way i look at it, underdrive pulley Fabspeed Xpipe reads 330 at dynojet, which is normally a high reading device?

That's kinda sick.

Then I must have a strong running car when it was stock...

Here is my dyno the car was OEM with only 1300 miles on the clock..

Swanson Performance is a Mustang shop...a bone stock 2011 5.0L Mustang was before me and he ran 358rwhp, which is right inline what a Mustang 5.0L runs when stock.

Both before/after runs were performed same day while still strapped to the dyno.
