Exhaust Note Poll: Stock vs Macht Schnell Track Pipes vs Akrapovic

Here's a sound clip of 3 different setups on the same vehicle.

A blind test we'll call it, all sound tests performed on MY11 BMW M3

Configurations

1. Stock
2. Macht Schnell Bypass Track Pipes, OEM Muffler, ESS E-Flash, Macht Schnell Pulleys, Macht Schnell Stage 2 Intake
3. Macht Schnell Bypass Track Pipes, Akrapovic Slip-On Exhaust, ESS E-Flash, Macht Schnell Pulleys, Macht Schnell Stage 2 Intake

Which is your favorite and why?

Discuss.

Strange! To me the stock sounds like it has the best mix of textures.

The second sounds modified (non-oem) but still good. Almost as if it is too announcing.

The third has a good blend of textures took. More exotic than the other two and that is not to say that it sounded wildly exotic. But I think it less aggressive and racier than the stock.

In person the stock is unbearable, but it does sound good when mic'd. I guess the mic provides more audible enhancements because I barely hear other stock M3s sound like this.

A good quality mic does help, which is why I wanted to present this example.

Thanks for the feedback!

I like the second one, sounds like a track car and the Akra really sounds good, more exotic, very loud.... thanks for the sound clip.

Stock has a great tone to it, but it's very muted. The oem mod adds the volume it needs and as most say, the car should have come stock this way.

I'm not a fan of the stock muffler mixed with any variation of x-pipe modification, it sounds unrefined and usually too raspy for my taste.

The akra sounds great as do many other aftermarket systems. If you do test pipes or an x-pipe, I think a good resonator/muffler combination is required to fine tune the resultant sound to your liking.

I just don't get what you guys are hearing in the akra from this vid. Perhaps in person there is more to experience. It sounds smoother and less racier in 'this' video.

For me it's mostly what you are not hearing: rasp

I voted for option two. While I think the akra has no rasp and nice low range rumble, it's too quiet and refined sounding. The test pipe + stock exhaust sounds mean without being excessive or overly raspy

^ this. I totally agree: a nice blend of refined low rpm and screaming high rpm.
