Thumbs down Question to the Moderators?

What posts do get to stay under the E90 General section? I am very confused, I see many topics that seem to be just fine here that get moved. Did I miss the list of do's and don'ts of posting here? Does this list change daily? Who makes up this list?

Seems like you guys spend most of the day moving things around here? Does it really matter that much???

General is for general discussion, but certain threads are very narrow in scope and should goto a specific forum. If topics werent separated into different categories you would never be able to find the posts related the topic you are interested in. For example, a post asking about wheel specs should go into the Wheels/Tires category instead of the general forum. A post asking about how the site is run should go into the "Site Related Announcements - Suggestions - Feedback - Questions" forum.

Six moved posts on the first page of the e90, e92, e93 forum.

Don't you think this is a bit excessive? I do not see this type of over zealous policing on other forums on the internet. Why so much here?

It makes it look like everyone that comes to e90post is too stupid to know where to post there comments.

This thread doesnt even make sense man, you can't have 2.1 million posts all sitting in general forum, thats kind of the whole concept of having forums, to have information in a sortable, readable format, otherwise we'd still be using email lists to communicate like in the old days

no, not everyone, just the six that got moved.

kidding of course, what's the point of this thread? threads are moved to the appropriate sub-forums for easier browsing and searching. Otherwise there's no need for the sub-forums; just one big free-for-all section.

I guess he just didn't understand that having things organized makes it easier to find later and more specific forums for individual people.

For example I spend alot of time in the general forum, but most of the time i click into the wash/wax subforum first!

My point is this. When I come to a forum to read supjects about e90, e92 I like to read all that applies without wondering where things might be categorized. For example. I posted a new post about my new 19” wheels under the General e90 Sedan etc forum, the moderator who moved it moved it to the Photo/Video/Media Gallery. I wonder how many 335i owners would think to look there if they were looking for comments about my new Miro CSL Replica wheels.

I know I wouldn’t So my point is this. I also posted this same post on Bimmerfest under the General e90 post and it’s still there along with other reports about wheels, questions about speakers, video of a 330i racing all things that apply to the e90. Here it like a librarian trying to file each post in some chronological order that most don’t understand. All of these above topics were moved to other places, who knows where.

Again what difference does it make if someone asks about speakers or wants to show a u tube video or talks about wheels in the general forum, after all these are all general discussions about the e90.

Does anyone who also has an account on Bimmerfest find it just one big blob of information? I find it very easy to stay up with the General conversations. I rarely look under the other sections here or on Bimmerfest. I am looking for General info about my e90.

I guess I could see your point...but when all is said and done..So what?
If someone is looking to find out about MIRO CSL Reps, they do a search. Same way you would do a search on google or wikipedia, different places for different things.

You may not know of these sites but; take IGN or Digg for example IGN has different pages for different topics (games, movies, tv shows, sports, ect..). If you were a gamer and only had a playstation you would not want to look at a page on IGN that is cover with stories and news about games(topics) you cared nothing about, and it would only waste your time!

Same for digg, you can customize what topics you wanted to see on your home page, for example I care nothing about sports. That is a news site and this is a forum so it is not a perfect analogy but I think you get the idea.

A closer to home example for me is our technical forum about Turbo/ 335 engine talk. I almost care nothing about it. So I avoid that topic and don't want it crowding up the general with every other thread about Turbo tuners and procede. All those threads belong in this forum, and have a place, a place that not everyone looks at.

I really don't want to come off as aggressive and you are entitled to your opinion, but it is not your forum. This is the first time i really have ever heard a problem like this.

P.S I don't know what everyone else does, but I subscribe to the RSS feeds, or just hit the new posts icon at the top and I never take noticed to what threads are where!

Its a question of volume, at a place like bimmerfest they get about 2-3 pages of bumped threads in 24 hours, so having all the posts in one forum is managable for the reader. This site gets about 10x the number of posts, the only way its manageable and readable is that its getting sorted out, otherwise there would be about 20 pages of new topics per day in the general forum, I doubt you could sift through that.

OK, so is it your Forum?

I agree with separating out the Turbo tuners from the how do I remove a speaker, but take a look at some of the moves they are over the top guys.

Your out doing yourselves!

I have been a moderator before at a very busy Subaru SIT site and we never policed it the way you guys are. It's just not necessary period! If you need to add more storage to your servers to keep up with your posts do so.

I for one and I am sure most people only look at page 1 or maybe 2 of the fourm topics, so as far as size goes it doesn't matter where the posts go they will all end up taking the same space on your servers hard drives. That's what your search engine is for. Let the pages get long who cares.

Again who would look for my post about wheels where it got moved to?

I am pretty much done with this topic.

No it is not my forum, but I am not trying to change it!

"Who cares if the pages gets long?" I do....

You are the only one who thinks this and no one else is really complaining.

GL with whatever you hope to accomplish, and P.S your Rims really do look nice, MIRO makes some pretty nice wheels!

It doesn't matter where your thread gets moved to....we will all see it when we look at "new posts"...which is what the majority of people look at on this forum. the fact that it's been moved to "photo" is irrellevant, until someone does a search....then your Miro wheels thread will come up again. It's really not a big deal when they move things....we all still see it.

When I'm looking at new posts...I personnally don't care what category it's in.

Sounds like a good idea, because I just can't believe all the subjective and random filing of posts on the site.

To be honest, I hit 'new posts' religiously myself, except for the odd cases when I have to reference something up. Its worked for me

To the OP, I hope Mark's and Oneshare's explanations suffice, its just forum housekeeping.

F man, oneshare325 was very polite trying to explain to you the rationale behind mods moving the threads to their appropriate sections. And now you're attacking him?

You like bimmerfest better? go there. Everyone will be happy.

then you possess neither common sense nor logic. Why was your Miro thread moved, you ask? Because it's got PICTURES showcasing your wheels, hence the move to the gallery section. That's hardly subjective or random.

Now I see the motive behind this thread, you're butthurt that your thread got moved. People are still going to enjoy the pictures you posted. Life's tough, move on.
