Engine Warning Light

Help!!

The service engine light just came on after the car started vibrating and lost power. A second light said "decreased power & increased emissions"....

Any idea what this could be?? How much to repair? I had it taken to the nearest BMW dealer but they can't do anything till Tuesday next week..

Car is a 2008 M3 and has 21000 miles. All fluids, etc OK. Only premium quality fuel is used. All scheduled maintenance up to date.

I will never understand why people come here and ask this stuff instead of just going to a mechanic in the first place....

OP, you hardly gave any details, so chances are no one knows and no one can tell you how much it will be.

What years do faulty ICV valves affect?

Oh.. My apologies to you dear sir!

If you noticed on the post itself.. IT IS with a mechanic as I wrote it, but they can't do nothing till Tuesday.

I asked to get an idea. S#it.. If people can ask about what kind of watch you prefer to drive with or where was the latest M3 spotted, I'd figure this would be ok.

If you don't care for the question, then click next.

I did do some research and it looks like at around 20k miles, a lot of these cars experience Coil problems.

Here's how you handle that:
1) Start with 4 Xanexes
2) Crush into a fine powder
3) Mix in 4 oz Macallan 18
4) Presto, it's Tuesday!! Just like your own personal time machine!!

But you didn't provide any good details. So people can't really help. Sorry if I came off as an ass, it was a long day.

And I don't what you mean with "coil problems" at 20k miles.

Take kyoshi's advice and just relax. If it is in the shop, then there's nothing you can do but wait anyway.

I have a hunch your decreased power warning may have to do with your fuel pump, providing irregular fuel volume has a direct correlation with fuel control and timing. The emission warning may or may not be caused by irregular exhaust that may be caused by the aforementioned issue or a faulty oxygen sensor.

Your dealer service department will I am sure let you know on Tuesday once they evaluated the problems.

Mind you there are times the on board computer gives us faulty feedback. Do keep us informed. Talk to your SA to find out if or if not you should drive your car to the dealership or if they will tow it to the shop. I mention this since you don't want to be told later "you should have not driven the car" so be on guard about this.

Anyway, this is what I recommend.

Do keep us informed as to the final outcome ... this is how we all learn ... Thanks and good luck to you.
