I average 17.8 and I'm not exactly light on the throttle. That number is based on what the on board computer is telling me. I should probably do the calculation myself next time I'm at the station.

Thanks to a handy dandy Iphone app (accufuel) I have been charting my MPG in my M3 and Yukon for the past 6 months that I have had the phone. I got 20.5mpg on a recent snowboarding trip in the M3 this past weekend. Pretty much 95% highway driving between 85-100 (using cruise control almost the entire time). Overall I am getting 17mpg total for the past 6 months, and I would not say that I baby the engine (however, I rarely rev it up to 7k when commuting. Most shifts under normal driving take place in the 5-6k range).
The on-board computer shows 17.0mpg since I have taken delivery a year ago.

I feel like my mileage is much better with power in sport plus mode. It's all about finesse.

Same mileage as my E34 M5 almost to the decimal. That says a lot.

How do you reset mpg? LOL. Mine is at 17.5 right now and usually is around there. After I get gas I push the trip button once, but mpg doesn't reset. I know I should RTFM, but .... ya ....

While it is displaying the MPG, push and hold the BC button on the end of the turn signal stalk until it resets.

I average 13.5 driving half small roads and half highway with very little traffic. I push pretty hard when I can. I drove my e46M3 the same and averaged 19.

To the OP - I also had a 2006 530i before my M3. Under substantially the same commute and driving conditions, I consistently got about 23-24 mpg in my old 530i and am now getting about 18-18.5 mpg in my M3. I estimate that my driving is 80% highway. |

Have you tried Gas Cubby for iPhone / iPod touch? I used the Accufuel app for the first few months I had my car, and find that Gas Cubby is better -- it allows you to capture far more information, and when you rotate your phone (landscape) it presents MPG, Gas Price Per Gallon and Total Gas Expenses on three charts -- you swipe through them one at a time. Pretty nifty.

I've averaged close to 21 on a full tank before. Just a lot of mild highway driving and I time my lights pretty good so I brake and start less than most people do but not true hypermiling.

I've got a 30 mile daily drive all in traffic (15-30 average mph) on surface streets and I have averaged 14.5 mpg normally. On long highway trips running 80 I'll average right near 21. If you go closer to 55/65 in sixth gear then you can get 24 or so on the highway. At the track it's less than 6 mpg. I've got somewhere near 15,000 miles on the car so these numbers have been tested out several times.
I was worried about the gas mileage too when I bought the car. It is what it is, not an exciting aspect of the car but better than my old RX-7 (which averaged between 10 and 12 mpg) so that is progress for you. The only time it really bothered me was back in October when we had a fairly severe (if brief) gas shortage in the SE USA. If I really babied the car I could get 16-17 mpg but it was such a pain. |

I commute in heavy DC traffic mainly through rush hour and I am getting 17mpg. I also have an AFE drop in filter and that may help a little.

This is an M3 forum correct? The M3 use fuel right? Honestly... If it bothers you why even reply? Doesn't seem to bother most of the other members...Who enjoy talking about every little aspect of their cars. LOL My only gripe would be that, this topic has been brought numerous times. Search button is your friend. |
