OP - If you haven't, just call ACM up and see if there's a customer car you can listen to. Then you will know if it's too loud for you and if it's drone in your opinion. It simply differs from person to person.

the ACM exhaust mod is identical to running a muffler delete/straight pipes. Save the money and just weld up some straight pipe, and save tons of weight. I have had a muffler delete and it doesn't drone, sounds quiet at idle and is def not even as loud as my gintani race (which are mufflers)

Ended up going with the performance exhaust.
I did hear a Modded one in person and it wasn't for me.

what would rock is a switch on the inside that would switch from ACM mod to original mod
i'm sure it can be done
and would probably still be cheaper than the M performance exhaust
Yes, there is a mod for that. I saw a thread with a guy who was very happy with his DIY electronic cutout.

Which mod? ACM (basically straight pipe) or the original one (leaving the short perforated section intact)?

The following link should provide answer to the M Performance Exhaust.

Not my $$$$, but I wish you had heard the original mod too. I just had mine done by replacing the large perforated pipes with non perforated and it is pure bliss. Total spent was $500.00
Used E90 Exhaust $150.00
Fabrication and removal of my exhaust/install of modded exhaust $350.00.

I have heard the PE from outside and inside the car and I prefer the sound of the modded. My wife drives the car more than I do and she has not even questioned the change and I didn't tell her about it yet. Which was the true litmus test. Of course she barely revs over 4K and only drives in D4

The best part of it for me, my exhaust was just replaced under warranty two weeks ago, so I basically have a new exhaust sitting in my garage if I decide to go back to the non modded sound.

My oem perforated mod is really loud with cat delete, it sounds like thunder in tunnels. I wonder if the Performance exhaust would be as loud without cats too. However, the muffler guy did stuff up my muffler with lots of extra glass packings, I wonder what that had done to the sound itself.
