Need help deciding: New F80 M3 or stick with 09 E90 and put ESS VT2-600 SC?

I need help! I dont know what to do, whether to wait and get the new F80 M3 or stay with my E90 M3 and put in a ESS VT2-600 Super Charger system? What would you do? Thank you!

Supercharge. Especially if the 600 is what you'd do.

I don't understand these threads. You're asking us to compare a supercharged M3 (something very few of us have any experience with) to a car that doesn't even exist yet. The specs aren't even finalized. How can you expect a meaningful discussion?

I'll be at a similar crossroads in two years at my current lease end when it will be time for me to decide to keep my e90 m3 or perhaps move to an f80..but with no finalized design or specs how can one even begin to weigh the pros and cons for either..

NA+SC engine vs fbo mod'd fi engine + tune...that's a discussion for a later date...

Thank you for all the comments. The thing is I can do the ESS VT2-600 SC now, but if I do, I have to keep the E90 and wont be able to get the F80. I can only do either or!

Then wait until the F80 is a known quantity and decide then. Just because you can do VT2 now doesn't mean you should if the potential downside is buyer's remorse later. Also, have you test driven a VT2 M3? Some I've talked to haven't liked it, and that's a lot of cash to risk -- plus at the very least you'll need bigger tires and therefore different wheels.

Do you get "wow'ed" by "massive torque" and don't care about the relationship it has to power? Then go with the turbocharged M3. If you are particular about making power at high rpm's and would rather preserve the throttle response and sound, stick with what you have a supercharge.

I would expect, to some extent, that with a new generation 3'er that last-gen S/C kits will come down in price. Then again this may not be accurate as the next car is turbo. So, it's tough to say. My 2c is S/C today, VT2-575.

Stefan, Thank you for very much. I think I'm leaning towards supercharging.

Thanks everyone! I decided to give the ESS VT2-575 a try, it should come in here very soon! I guess I can always sell the unit if it doesn't work out for me.

If it were my money i'd show my disapproval of the turbo trend and invest in that glorious V8. The adrenaline rush is going to be worlds better, that I know without knowing anything about the new car

Many BMW purists/previous owners are "waiting" instead of pre-ordering the new M3 this time around. Cross your fingers that it's a good one, you can always get it down the road

If BMW can produce something that's faster, rawer, lighter and better handling than the current M3 then I'll buy it. Based on my experience with the F30 platform, I'm not holding my breath.

With the new m3 most likely being turbocharged I would wait because you would not need to do much to it, ie small increase in boost and voila instant gratification. Performance wise there will not be much in it once tuned but you have whole new build and technology.

First M3

ter 3.25 years and 65k mile later it has spent 2 months in the shop for various reasons. In shop now for a new JBE after throwing all sorts of codes. The JBE is just the start for the dealer to be able to communicate with the car. Reliability wise, I wish i went the carefree route of the Lexus. Next time I think the ACURA NSX may be a possibility.
