Junkyards with MY2009 3-Series

Any information about local junkyards in your area with MY2009 3-Series? I'm looking to buy iDrive parts...

LOL. Surely, you had to have known. No?

To the OP, good luck. I'd think it a bit too soon to be seeing '09 cars show up in the junkyard. However, I am very eagerly waiting for a DIY on this.

I know of a forum sponsor here that got a CIC in a junkyard already, but it was only one...

There's no hurry, as a completely new and much better Voice Activation feature will be out by 09/10 - MY2010. It could be either a new CIC hardware/software of just new iDrive software in the current unit.

Based on the photo below and the document attached, I don't think that the Vehicle Order has to be changed as my car already have iDrive so most probably no need of any particular vehicle coding. Now, what I will definitely need is the FSC (enabling codes) for the CIC just to enable the Nav and the Voice Activation and anything else within the unit. The unit itself is pretty much self-contained (GPS, HDD, HD-Radio) so it does not need any external device or code just to turn on. Now, communicating with other devices and car systems, that's the tricky part.

My theory is that because the FSC codes are VIN-based and dependent, once they are loaded into the CIC either the car or the CIC itself will automatically configure themselves to whatever audio devices are connected thru the MOST (TCU, Sirius, MOST OEM amp) so it should work basically as plug 'n play. There's no other coding -much less a vehicle coding- mentioned in the document attached, just that when a CIC is replaced the FSC codes must be loaded for it to work. How the CIC will know which audio devices configuration is present in the car? So it is either thru those FSC codes or thru the Vehicle Order, and both are based on the VIN.

Of course, that's my guess. But without the actual hardware and the FSC I cannot prove this at all. How am I going to get the FSC codes? I already asked BMWNA directly if they can provide a custom set for the VIN of my car once I get the hardware...

Do late model cars even end up in junk yards anymore? I thought they all got bought up and parted out by parts recyclers and used parts dealers. But I suppose these are really just modern-day junk yards in a way.

Good luck with the project Technic, sounds like a pretty big undertaking.

Probably the largest network fo junkyards in the US. I have seen many late model euro cars at their So Cal facilities.

The main issue is no FSC codes, no CIC worky even in a MY2009... the next issue is convincing BMWNA to create a set for my MY2008 M3 VIN.

I think my late 09 build car has it.
I am doing my ED at the moment so I can check if anyone has a way to confirm the new system - all I know is that it's finally easier to speak to the iDrive NAV or system options than it is to key things in with the controller.

Oh, and 3D maps FTW!

What week or month was your car built? Mine was week 28, I HOPE there's the new voice gizmo in my car too!

Good news: LKQ has an used '09 HD screen and the CIC from a wrecked M3 at a decent price. Ready to buy...

Bad news: ... until I checked each P/N. This CIC P/N has been superseded 4 times and the screen P/N twice.

Back to searching.

Superseded is when a part has been upgraded (mostly hardware) to a more stable/less faulty/just better performing version of itself.

In this case, the CIC has been thru 4 upgrades and the HD screen thru 2 upgrades since 09/08 production.

The CIC brand new price is $929.56 + $500 and the HD screen is $1,462.51 + $500 core charge as well.

oh, of course...for some reason i was thinking it had to do with fraud. i can't believe they've already updated it so many times!!

considering those prices, i see why you are searching junkyards! good luck technic, sounds like an awesome project.
