Eisenmann race first impressions

Hey guys,

I finally got my Eisenmann race exhaust and installed it today on my otherwise stock E92.

The quality of the exhaust is superb. The shipping not so much, the box was damaged, and one of the side holder for the support ribbon was bent in, no functional impact but still annoying.

I installed this myself taking my time, first exhaust I'm installed on the M3, was missing a deep enough 13 mm socket wrench which delayed the installation, so I couldn't take the back support bracket, so I had to wrestle with the rubber hangers for a while. It's also very heavy which doesn't make the installation any easier. Having a jack to raise it in place helped a lot.

I think I have a small leak on one side at the connection to the muffler, the fit of the connecting pipe was different between the two sides. Was expecting better fit.

Once installed look is perfect. I ordered the black series with polished tip, and I couldn't be happier.

OK, for the noise, man this thing is loud. For the first few miles it was very deep without much character. After driving it more it seems to sound a little more defined. It smokes and stinks like hell still, so this exhaust might need more breaking in than the average mufflers.

So overall shipping and fit was 8/10. Looks 10/10. For sound I think I need to break it in more but it's loud as hell for sure!

I loved the exhaust note of the Eisenmann Race! The cabin experience sparked some tinnitus though...I went to a lot of rock concerts in the
80's. Yes, it's loud but not obnoxious and looks perfect.

I'm looking into the Eisenmann race as well. Do you happen to know if they can do other tip styles? I always liked the single wall look

Thanks for posting this OP. I just got mine 2 weeks ago and I'm absolutely in love with it. My car is also otherwise stock. I bought mine lightly used from AutoCouture (thanks Sal) and it was already broken in. I was told the brand new ones smoke and/or stink. I now find myself in the same situation as when the car was delivered, I wanna drive the car for no reason! IMHO, this is the best catback system for this car without a doubt and it's one of few that looks good from the back of the car too. Also there is no doubt in my mind this exhaust has less restrictive airflow than OEM. You'll know that the second the throttle is blipped on a shift. This exhaust is not obnoxious in the least, it's exactly the right volume. I can finally hear the exhaust from inside the car! I love hearing the engine but hearing both is a true eargasm.
Now to the bad, and I'm nitpicking. If you are very overly sensative to drone, don't buy. It does drone but I prefer to say that it resonates a VERY pleasing sound right at 3k rpm. Also I can't really tell if it's any louder at WOT, I'm sure it is but it's not discernable inside the car. I don't care anyway. I got this thing dirt cheap in wonderful condition. This is how this car should sound from the factory.

Brave man on the install Did mine with a friend and a lift. The more you drive it the more you love it!! For those that want it a bit on the loud side and just an axle back system it can't be beat! Glad your happy. I knew you would be!

It's much better now already, but at the beginning a lot of smoke.

I'm an old man that partied too much as well (and still do). So far the ears are holding but the first couple of miles were painful.

IND and EuropeanAutoSource have a lot of pictures, they have lots of options for the exhaust so maybe they have what you are looking for.

Did you get the sport or race? The race is hell of a lot louder than stock inside and outside. Not sure if I would call the harmonics at 2-3k pleasing, but it's an eargasm above 4k.

Lucky, I could have used a lift and a helping hand for sure, but I couldn't wait any longer to get this beast on my car!

I think if there is a problem with the exhaust, it's so purposeful sounding and unobnoxious that we can't tell anything at WOT. I've seen decibel meter tests and IT IS LOUDER than OEM in the higher RPM's. For whatever reason it's just not constantly in your face with it.
sycd, I have the Race. The Sport is too quiet IMO.

Got it. I'm probably still under the shock after the switch from stock

It sounds really really good in the higher RPM, a bit of drone and very deep down low. Need more driving to get used to this monster.

I was going to ask about the drone. My drones at 2000 rom and its annoying at times. But I guess they all drone.

I'm happy with my Sport on my DDer. Got over 4 years on mine and it's holding up well.

Just came back from a longer drive. Sorry to say that the race is going to be too loud for me. I guess I'm too old for this shit Will probably sell it and go for something more tame or just leave it stock.

I think this is one of the loudest exhausts for the M3. what are you considering instead?

Yeah I wanted to go from loud down to more quiet instead of from too quiet and always wonder how it would be louder

Might go M-perf instead.

I'm having a hard time pulling the trigger and remove that exhaust already, it looks so good and sounds so good from the outside.

Would a tune or X-pipe reduce the low end drone? Anyone did this and noticed any change?

Also I seem to be noticing a bit of loss of low end torque at around 1500-2k rpm. Am I imagining things? Is this something a tune like the ESS tune could fix?

I love my Sport too! It's just perfect (for me) ...and no drone.

Sorry to hear your issues. IMO, there are axle-backs that are louder than the Race but don't sound nearly as good. I've certainly not LOST any power, in fact I've hit the gas a couple times since and thank god I had all the nannies on.
I don't think an x-pipe is going to help much but it will change the sound a little.

Try the Megan exhaust. It's 600 bucks, deep NASCAR sound and is much quieter than the eisenmann but louder than the performance. It does have very very minor drone at 2k-3k but that's like 7th at 60mph. I love mine but want a louder one now.
