Yes this is true. I test drove a demo at this one dealer and the salesman wouldnt let me drive the car off the lot because i never use dct defore so Instead, he said he was going take me to an abandoned rail yard where there are "no cops" so he could show me how to "rip the shit out of it." he said u can't test drive the M3 on local roads...

We went there, we tore it up back and forth doing 0-80 runs at wot. I was sold right there. Car had 20 miles on it when I was done. Told him I didn't want that one we just drove. He laughed. Says no one ever does. Then we left. Imagine how many otter guys did the same thing we did after me. The ca referred to the abandoned lot as their "private race track.". Good luck to the guy who bought that car. Hopefully they leased it.

This is insane. No amount of money is worth not driving my car away with 5 on the odo. Something about those very first miles makes it MINE. No thank you to the OP!

Demo? People don't buy and test drive these cars because they are so quiet and smooth. They buy them because they are awestruck by its capabilities when its dynamics are exploited. That is the entire purpose to test drive the car in the first place. It will get flogged. That being said I know people that have purchased "Exhibitor/Demonstrator" M cars and never had any issues.

+1

I test drove the same M3 twice at Bavarian in Graf and after copying my ID it was free reign.

The first time I was let out completely alone, the next time I was with my family. No CA with me and no admonishment to "take it easy", which I certainly did not.

Maybe it is just that location, as their 335 demo had been damaged by one of the CAs, but they did not really seem to care about limiting the test drive experience. I was told that I would be responsible for any tickets received by photo radar or otherwise while out...that was about it. I guess the benefit is that my dealer is not really near the Autobahn for some serious high speed runs.

I ended up ordering a new one in a different color, but I can only imagine that I was one in a long line of test pilots who flogged that example.

While you do save money on the demo and get the first service included, it was just not worth it to me. Perhaps Pentagon is different, but unless they are going on every test drive....

LMAO

yes, the SA is a good friend and besides ME, he is the only one allowed to drive the car until the 1200 mile break in period. I go there when i want and sign it out and drive it as well. So yes, i do know how it's being taken care of and i'm not worried about it.

As for the comment about him riding with everyone, he DOES. The truth is, when someone buys/builds a car and they use it for demo here they know the car is sold and yes it sucks for the people test driving it because they can't just abuse it since it's as if i'm loaning the car to the dealership, and in my contract it states that if something happens to the car as far as damage, i get a new one. So if i were to pick this car up in May and it has say 1500 miles for the sake of argument, then i get a brand new car. So i would have gotten my nice discount and then get a new car with say 5 miles or so...

So with that said, that is why i know how my car is treated, because if it gets abused then they owe me a NEW one. And they aren't going to risk that. Yes, it gets driven, as it should. It's a CAR, it's not a baby, it's meant to be driven. And no one will drive the car any harder than i will when i get it anyway.

At the end of the day, a car is a car.

Its in a contract stating that he and the owner are the only two allowed to drive until 1200 mile break in.

I believe some people buy brand new cars to put them in the garage and just marrinate apparently.... and not drive it. A car is suppose to be driven!

Yes, exactly.

And i don't get why people do that really...i don't know how you spend $60-$70K on a car and let it sit in your garage. I can on the other hand see why you would put it in the garage during winter if you don't have the proper tires and/or you just don't want to drive it cause it's not as much YOU driving the car but the MORONS on the road that can't drive and will run into you. Other than that, rain or shine mine will be out. (just not snow )

Then it sounds like you would be wrong, unless you have some sort of insider scoop on how every dealer treats its demos.

+1. This is why cars like Ferraris are always breaking down. The engines are designed to come together when driven HARD.

Regarding the Demo system you guys have with military sales, kudos to the program for getting you guys discounts while making sure your cars are taken care of. Hats off to those that serve.
