Again, VA is WORST state to drive in.

Driving back from Richmond last week on 95N. I'm in Stafford County and have my cruise control set for 80mph in the middle lane. The speed limit is 70mph (or so I thought). I see the cop on the left (Waze didn't show him, but I think he just got there) so I move over to the right hand lane. Again, not weaving in and out of traffic, just keeping up. All of a sudden I see the lights go on behind me. You've got to be fucking kidding me?

I said, officer I was keeping up with traffic and had my cruise control set at 80mph. "Well, it drops down to 65mph so you were doing 15mph over." Really? I got a speeding ticket doing 80mph on a major highway??? I've lived here for 16 years and I NEVER got a speeding ticket before moving to VA. I've never heard anyone getting a ticket for doing 80. I do believe it was because I was driving a M3. I guess he figured that I can afford it. Doesn't he know I already donate a significant amount of my salary to the DMV every year?!

Thanks for letting me rant.

Pretty much the whole state (VA) is bad for cops....you really have to watch yourself.

Hate driving in VA. I went to Virginia Tech and got a nice fat ticket after driving for 4 hours. Got the ticket 10 mins from where I was supposed to be. 55 in a 35 mph. And least he didn't give me reckless.

Still my only ticket. Next time I go back for a football game, I'm bringing my E36 M3. At least that way I'll be less likely to speed

I try not to go more than 10 over in Va (75 mph max) for just that reason. Thankfully working in Arlington I'm only in the state for a short stretch.

Maybe it was revenue day.

VA State Troopers are the worst! The only state where cops buddy-fuck each other and give tickets to other cops. There's no professional courtesy. I've heard from county cops that the troopers have no problem giving tickets to them if they're speeding or are caught in some traffic incident. VA State troopers are hated by other state troopers (from other states). They have no regard for you, your wallet or your time. Their interpretation of discretion is as black and white as the law is written.

Totally agree. I've never been able to get out of a ticket and I have my uncle's NYC detectives badge!

A few years back me and some buddies were on our yearly fall ride up the Blue Ridge Parkway on our bikes. About 3 days in the forecast was calling for heavy rains so we decided to cut the trip a little short and boogie on back to Atlanta via the Interstate. We made our way off the BRP somewhere near Fancy Gap, VA and ended up on I-77 south. The lead bike of 5 was probably doing only 90mph or so when an unmarked Silver Ford Interceptor coming North whipped it through the grassy median and came racing up beside us. He managed to get to the first bike who pulled over. The other 4 of us stupidly pulled over as well so as not to leave our buddy behind. Long story short, this VA cop from whatever local jurisdiction we were in gave us all speeding tickets. We all ended up sending a check to VA for $300.

Lesson learned: If one bike gets pulled over the rest keep going. We will meet you at the next exit!
