FS: 5D Mark 2 + extras

Sold.

Selling my 5D2. Currently has around 7,500 actuations. Purchased new in November 2010. It's in mint condition. Also included is a Zeikos battery grip and two extra Canon LP-E6 batteries (for a total of 3 including the one that came with the camera).

Also included are the original box, receipt, manuals, strap, etc.

Price is $2250 shipped in the USA. I prefer a local sale in SoCal, though. Local price is $2200.

Reason for selling - I bought the 5D2 thinking I would be using it mostly for video and shooting still subjects. Instead I've found I'm shooting motorsports almost entirely. So I'm upgrading to a 1D Mark IV.

Yes, really smokin' price. Great deal.

I own the 5D2 and the 7D and I'm Jonesing for a 1D MkIV to replace the 7D as my bird and wildlife rig. I'm thinking that my 500mm with a 2xTC on the 1D4 would get some incredible bird shots. Otherwise, I'm very happy with the 7D, except for its AF limitation with extenders.

My 7D already has 33,000 clicks!

500 with a 2x would be crazy.

Just found out I have to personally front around $6000 for a conference, so my 1D4 purchase isn't gonna happen for a couple of weeks, since I have to get reimbursed. Oh well, I still have my 1D2N which I'm really enjoying.

Ugh. I've personally fronted a conference, but I was the founder. I hope that you get all your money back quickly.

I'm hoping that the 7D MkII comes with the "pro" AF system. If not, then the 1D4 will go on the "to buy" list.

what limitations are you finding with the AF on the 7D?

I know the 1D is supposed to be excellent at tracking a subject once it's focus is locked on, but i don't find the 7D too bad.

It's great with no TC or with the 1.4x TC. The 7D locks on fine, so long as you're aware of the background and select the right mode. My only problem is trying to AF with a 2x TC, which the 1D4 will do. Most of the time it's not a problem and for static subjects I can MF, but, you know how it is, I want it all. Still, it's several thousand dollars just to gain that feature and I'm not so sure that I really need it as much as I want it.

The 7D focus system is pretty good. I want a 1D4 for the high ISO performance and the larger sensor size, the instant fire (I never noticed that my 5D2 had shutter lag until I started using my 1D2N), dual card slots, etc.

I dislike the 7D ISO performance, wish it was more comparable to my 5D

one more bonus for you Dave, the 1D will shoot 2 times as many shots before it's service life is about over, and seeing as you're already around 33000, might be nice to have that extra buffer.

i figure, it would save you money in the long run.

Well, service life is a consideration, but, unfortunately, the added cost eats up all of the benefit. I'm thinking that I'll have the option of replacing the 7D with the 7D MkII when my shutter gives out. Once you invest in a 1D you want it last as long as possible.

I agree 100% about the 7D's high-ISO performance not being up to the 5D and the 5D MkII which is my other body.

I'd pick a 7D/5D2 combination over the 1D MkIV any day, but I've already got that. The 1D2/5D2 combination would be absolutely killer.

I'm going to wait to see the cost of the 200-400mm f/4L IS with internal 1.4x TC before I upgrade a body. I'm afraid that'll be mid five-figures and lenses take priority for me.

I want something lighter, but I'm still proud of my hand-held 500mm shots. Here's one that I took last evening:

It takes practice to shoot a long lens, but it literally takes physical training to hand hold these big super teles. I couldn't have made this shot a year ago.

Camera Canon EOS 7D
Exposure 0.001 sec (1/1000)
Aperture f/6.3
Focal Length 500 mm
ISO Speed 400
Exposure Bias +1 EV
