I would love to DD a cayman R, but it's just too hard, space wise. 6MT would be my choice for the Cayman R. I'm not a buyer yet, but if things go well for me in the next two or three years, I just might end up in the next generation Cayman.

I only drove a manual cayman R when I was looking at them-it was so sweet it really was an easy choice. I also drove a 991S PDK and really didn't like it-just like having an automatic.... you will have to see how you like it.

Now taking delivery of C63 AMG
With the addition of baby girl in my life I recognize the need for a car with a back seat. Now, nobody said it can't be a fast car, right?
So this weekend I pick up a 2013 C63 AMG coupe-performance package with black red interior and LSD. Will be a nice compliment to the Cayman R. Two different ends of the spectrum one is quick and fox like-the other is a bull on steroids. Had no desire to look at an M3 again after the problems I had and the lure of 481 factory hp and 443 lb torque made this the last of the NA AMG V8's too good to pass up. Photos of the two together. PS-the cayman leaves soon to get a 4.2 L conversion by Jake Raby. Should have a better power to weight ratio than a gt3 RS when that is done. |

For yet another opinion, in its latest comparison test, Car and Driver gave both cars a "9" for overall steering score. Bruce Edit: "both cars" refers to the C63 and M3. Last edited by bruce.augenstein@comcast.; 12-18-2012 at 11:14 AM.. |

Yes, 4.2 liter conversion. New billet crank, new cromo connecting rods and new pistons with Nikki liners. That car is so much fun to drive now, just needs about 70ft lbs more torque. Will update with the progress of this project once it actually starts up.

Please do. A 4.2 with what compression ratio? 11.5/12.0:1? Car should be putting down 500+ hp. An weight reduction planned in addition? What about a set of motons or ohlins? Will be excited to see the build...been looking around myself for possibly trading the M3 for a cayman r or new 991.

Keep me updated! Hows the M3 treating you? I haven't seen your car around OKC. Do you ever go to coffee and cars up at Texas Road House?

First thoughts on the C63 AMG
So the beast is now in the garage next to the Cayman R. Seems huge next to the Cayman. Drove the 250 miles from Dallas with ease-very happy on the highway-you barely have to breath on the throttle and the car lunges forward- unreal levels of torque. Definitely the nicest interior of the bunch (M3, Cayman). I still like the Cayman interior as a sports car-the most purist and purposeful. The two tone black-red seats in the AMG are gorgeous!
The car has a weird effect on people-I had an F10 M5 try to race me 5 miles out of the dealer's lot and a modded mustang later on??? Something about those quad exhausts that calls in the boy racers. Downside: so far the tire size baffles me. 235/18 on the front and 255/18 on the back???? This car needs at least 265's up front and 295's on the rear. Unfortunately there is not enough clearance for that. I am going to upgrade to 245/19's and 265/19 on the back. Looks like that is as big as I can go. The reason the black series has those crazy add on fender flares. Need to get some photos up soon. Had to leave the car behind for xmas visit to the parents.... |

Congrats on the C63 and I hope the winter months treat you well in OKC. I have been pondering the TPC turbo route for my Cayman S but reliability can be an issue.
Is there a particular auto dealership you like in Dallas? Dave Former car: 2007 335i JB3 |

I had thought about the TPC route but the Cayman R has such a high compression ratio and pushing it with boost didn't seem like the way to go. There is a reason 911 turbo motors are built like truck engines with heavy duty components-to stand up to all the strain. Plus I had been hearing from enought people that have had issues with the turbo conversion it gave me pause. The tried and true displacement and race grade motor components sounded much better way to go.

Possibly looking to buy, most likely a MB. It's nice to have a couple options especially if you worked with someone worth recommending. Feel free to pm me if you prefer.

I had the opportunity to drive a Cayman S back in 2006. Ended-up in my cousin's hand in the middle east. The car was a true "pocket rocket". I can't imagine how fast the Cayman R feels like.
Congrats on both vehicles. |

Boosted cayman engine....
The cayman motor has a 12.5:1 compression ratio. Boosting it is a scary prospect. The big turbo kit company says it is ok with low boost but I find it very interesting that the same company offers a special stroker kit with increases the displacemnt to 3.7L and lowers the compression ratio at the same time and is marketed as a more efficient way to go the turbo route. I have read enough posts from people that have done the turbos but ran into problems I decided not go this route. And really not a big fan of turbos-yes they are more efficent but they lack the soul and excitement of a hairy maxed out NA motor. That is the reason I traded my 335I for an M3. Also why I grabed a C63-the last the big NA motors from MB.

Dave: I used Park Place and Brad was my sales agent (AMG specialist). Everything was smooth and easy and they gave a much better price than the no discount on AMG local MB dealer. In fact they were so good about finding the perfect car I wanted and then buidling it out they were so much better than the local dealer that never got back to me about a buying a car. |
