335i sstt vs 135i stock

My friend and i decided to have a run or two today after i installed the sstt just to see the difference, there was five of us at the time and me having the more powerful car decided to take 2 passengers while he only takes one, all three passengers are pretty heavy 170+ lbs. plus the extra weight of my car compared to his 1er. So, its three people in my car including me, and two people in his car including the driver. We went from a roll 30mph and i was in 2nd gear (he said he was in 1st), 3 honks, and he got a slight jump about half a car and stayed that way all the to about 100mph. I was a little surprised thinking i would have beat him even with practically a full car, second time we went from 20mph 1st gear roll and again he got a split second jump but i managed to hold it just a bit closer this time but he still won by barely half a car and this time i was slightly more shocked i thought for certain i would beat him in first gear. i guess weight really is the enemy in this case because a 335i with TT is supposed to beat a 135...right? going to have a rematch again soon.

hopefully these races are on a track

But that being said, the 335i with SSTT is sitting at a 131 lb disadvantage stock for stock (with slightly better aerodynamics on the 3 vs 1...but that wont come into play off the line much)..add an extra 170lb person (this is assuming the 1ers passengers weigh the same as yours per person)...and you are racing a 135 who has ~300lb advantage over you...

Even the 35whp the SSTT gives you (also assuming you had given that thing time to adapt...as it takes a day or so..youll notice the difference), cannot overcome a 300 lb weight advantage.

The fact that you stayed within a car length is showing you the extra power you do have, since the jump is variable, that car length is negligible, essentially, youre dead even, but he has a 300lb advantage. There is your power

Ummmm.NO. The 335 has FREER FLOWING EXHAUST...the only application of this engine that has this setup..... this gives it higher #s on the dyno...330hp---~445 Nm of torque and a rolling (1 foot) 0-60 of 4.8s. The 1er is more manovreable though, but has a less precise sterring... so its a drivers race

Hard to argue with you on that. But, how do you reconcile the fact that you have a dash that replicates a 70's Olds Cutlass dash?

Less precise steering? I've driven both and the 1 DEFINITELY has more precise, communicative steering. Cetaris paribus, the 1 will prevail.

test done at Spring Mountain Motorsports Park at an elevation of 3Kft. Not exactly favorable for N/A cars, but it shows a good comparison between the 1 and 3er.

It's not less precise, it's just a lighter feel. I've had both cars and prefer the 3er's heavier feel...especially at high autobahn speeds.

Yes, the 1 is faster...but I think BMW is too smart for you all.

They made it uglier to compensate for it being faster and cheaper. If it was better looking than the 335i, no way in hell anyone would buy the 335i.

Well, uglier is all in the eye of the beholder. I like the sleek look of the 3 but couldn't live with two things about it. The straight dash that is way to retro domestic for me and the fact that if I wanted a vert it would weigh almost 4000lbs.

Additionally, on the plus side for the 3, it has way more rear seat room than my 1 if that's important to you.

stock vs stock w/ equal everything, 1er is still a bit quicker due to lighter weight. that's simple physics, you are not going to change that.

now SSTT will give u slight bump in power, but you are now carrying even more weight with the additional passanger. why not just run both cars with driver only?

or throw in JB+ or JB3/V3 and you wil be fine.

+1. funny how they think their car is so much better than the 335 but in the end.. they still have the 335 engine..

the 135i is hideous. no wonder no one is buying them in my local dealership.

Meh, the 135 is a more driver centric vehicle. You can have the good looks.

Who mentioned that the 1 is better than the 3 on this tread? Same engine, one is lighter, easy choice for those that preferred speed. The look factor starts to go away when everybody and their grandma drives the same car. Hopefully, there are more people that think the 1 is hideous. When I see as many 1s as the 3s, that will be the day I sell my 1.
