Mercedes seems to be the best at cynically playing this game with their AMG versions of EVERYTHING. Sure, there are plenty of people who get an E63 or C63 for the performance, but there are probably just as many if not more who do the AMG thing because it represents the most expensive model in that particular line--S65, SL65, G55, etc. |

The reason the M5 won't fail is because of the badge...that's all there is to it. Other the that, it really can't be taken to the track with it weighting 4000+ lbs. It's just a fast, heavy, tub o lard.
The second reason it won't fail is because of marketing. Last edited by -=Hot|Ice=-; 08-23-2011 at 09:04 PM.. |

hell, the M5 and M3 are both stupendous cars...They each have a core purpose that they do well.
What's with the one is good so the other must be bad attitudes?

the ///M3 is the one ... it's all you ever need, unless you like to be first on the track ... not that the ///M3 be far behind the ///M5 ... then I have to agree on the size, already the e9x is much larger then the e46 was.
for my money and desire the ///M3 is the one

The M5 is not really intended to be a track car. I think it'll be great. Even though I think the new 5 series in general are too big. If I was someone who drove long distances a lot and/or had a family to drive around I'd definitely consider one. M5 has always been my choice if I ever need 4 doors.

uhh...the reason it comes that way from the factory is because it's designed for the track. Your contradicting your own thought process. If the M5 isn't meant for the track, then what's it's purpose? It's no different the a 550i. The handling, power, and styling are all there to make it purposeful for the track. Saying the M5 isn't meant for the track is like saying Beans aren't meant to be in a bean burrito.

What? M Cars were designed(well use to be) for the track. This isn't an opinion that you can disagree with. This is fact. Unless, you think it's because of status. Then, you're one of those people. Do you even know what M stands for? Or use to stand for?

highlighted your key words. The F10 M5 is not designed for the track, sorry. Maybe back in the day they were. BMW still wants you to believe they are, as that is their marketing tactic. However this car is not a track car. The M3 is designed more so for the track.

P.S. While the M3 is more of a track car it still isn't meant for the track weighting in at 3700 pounds. |

Not saying it doesn't. It would track even better if it were lighter. Would also get better MPG. I give props to the M3 for being the lightest car in it's class. The C63 AMG coupe comes in 100 pounds heavier I believe then the sedan thanks to that glass roof.

I'm saying no argument is ever going to convince me the "///Marketing" engineers at BMW ever had any intention of building this car for people to take to the track. It's way to big and bloated with technology and luxury items. It is simply designed to be a high powered luxury street car. Of course you can race it on the track if you want, just like you can take a Prius to a track.

Am I the only one here that would have went with the new M5?
I mean I love my M3 but I already really like the new 5 series and the new M5 just puts the icing on the cake. I think that thing is going to be sweet! Maybe not the most powerful or beautiful car that BMW has ever made but still a very sexy car.
