I had a 2004 6MT sport suspension G35 sedan and it came with an LSD. This is not new for the 2007 model.

sounds more like marketing since I don't hear too many G35 owners tracking their cars.

At first I thought LSD was referring to the drug.

What a value. I wonder why we don't get that in our cars.

That's interesting. I find more G35 owners track than 3-series owners. Regardless, I think LSD is overrated.

Because it isn't needed. You can enjoy your 335/330i on the road or on the track without a LSD. The main benefit of LSD is shaving 10ths of a second off of lap time or hard driving in bad weather. Neither of which I don't indulge in.

This can be debated. One can enjoy a day on the golf course in a golf cart too. Wheel slippage is possible with DSC/DTC disengaged, unless you don't indulge in this type of driving, which would of course make the argument moot. One could drive with DSC/DTC engaged, however, straight line wheel slippage is compensated for with electronic intervention in the form of delaying engine power (try taking off at 3500 rpm with your DTC on (6MT)). DSC would selectively control braking to individual wheels to regain traction. The alternative? Power to both rear wheels without computer-controlled braking when slipping occurs.

Whether or not the E90 should or shouldn't have LSD shouldn't turn into a debate about whether or not we need to drive like road maniacs or street racers, but on the merits of its value from a pure performance standpoint.

Remember, BMW = the ultimate driving machine or the near-ultimate driving machine?

For those who do track their cars, a LSD can be a tremendous benefit -- more than a few 10ths of a second (well, I guess depending on the track, of course). I'm not one of those guys, so it's not such a huge deal to someone like me.

Or just even easy/moderate driving in wet weather with the blowtenzas. I end up driving around with DTC activated most of the time because I get tired of the traction control cutting power on me constantly. Especially trying to accelerate turning hard right out of a driveway.

LSD isn't necessarily going to help much in that scenario ... make it worse actually ... but it'd be nice to have a mechanical LSD instead of an electronic nanny cutting in all the time.

It's interesting to see the difference of opinion from the E90 owners vs the E46fanatics owners, a lot of whom have modded their cars. To the E46 crowd, LSD in a numerically higher diff swap is essential.

When I switch to the lower gear open diff, it will not have LSD, because that option would cost a few thousand more. However, several of my previous cars, mostly Supras, MR2s and Z Cars have had LSD differentials, which I felt helped with autocrossing events. Even my Explorer has that. This is why I find it interesting that the "ultimate driving machine" does not.

I too find the electronic nanny at times a little too interventional, as I can control a little bit of wheel slippage with steering. Hence, the option of deactivating this is available for people like me for those extra "special" no-holds barred, thrill-seeking moments.
