A Mustang beat an M3 4 times this year...BMW is in the lead points wise because they have had more podium finishes...but remember Mustangs don't handle.....

Yes Speed Channel does carry alot of the Grand AM races. If you go to www.grand-am.com you can find out the schedules.

Most people don't..to be honest when I talk to track guys (M3's, Porsche) they know the deal with the new Mustang. Like I said I think the M3 is a better car, but really got to take my hat off to Ford who didn't take government money and is actually starting to make cars again instead of just SUVs and trucks. Whats funny Ford of Europe is actually looked upon very postitively in Europe.

My next car may be the 2014 Mustang, I'm not to much into the retro thing. I wish Ford went more high tech with its exterior design, something they promise for the next go round.

You're funny, do you think the BMW M3s in the Nordschleife 24hr. race were production cars.

Wait this totally looks like a production M3..not

Here is the webpage of the results for the GrandAm series...more prodution based than the 24hr. Nordschleife race.

http://www.grand-am.com/schedule/ind...es=k&cat_id=91

Listen I'm not here to start an argument..but for you to say they don't handle well is just not true...I put my money where my mouth is I bought an M3, I still feel like its a better car but give credit where credit is due. Maybe I'm reading you wrong and if I am please forgive me, but your posts against US made automobiles almost comes across as an "anti-U.S." kind of rant when blatant facts are just totally ignored. In fact the cars they are racing are not prototypes, they are factory cars that do have some suspension mods but none of the cars are stock regardless of the make. You had a point last year when the cars were using a 5.0L 4V cammer motor when the production car was using a 4.6L 3V SOHC motor, well in 2011 (the year we are talking about here) now uses a 5.0L 4V motor in the production car.

Here an introduction on what makes the GT class for the GrandAm...

I do agree that I wish Ford would take a $35k Mustang with the Brembo package out on Nurburgring and post some times. Other than you though (which I am entirely envious) most of us don't get to run the Nurburgring...

Also, I am on the Mustang boards as well setting them straight about the M3. Fanbois on either side of the fence kind of bother me, to each his own is my motto. To spread false information on innuendo is just not right, but I realize this is an M3 board. Just remember competition improves the breed.

Dave
My bad when I searched the Grandam website all i could find was the ford prototypes. I am with you on Nurburgring testing! When will Ford take this car to the ring and post a time? Will they enter the 24hr race? Ford tried with a Ford GT from raeder motorsport car Was supported from Matech that races in the Europe GT1 series. The Ford GT got pole in 2009 and had technical difficulties within the first 2 hours of the race. BMW was lucky this year. Audi dominated the grid the Porsche GT3 R's were plaqued with accidents and engine failures.

I owned the following Mustangs..

1982 Mustang GT
1985 Mustang GT
1990 5.0LX hatchback
1993 Mustang SVT Cobra
1995 Mustang SVT Cobra
1998 Mustang SVT Cobra

That being said the new Mustang is light years ahead than it was back then. Ford finally has the right mind set where almost good enough isn't good enough. They finally realize that you have to provide a great product from the get go.

What kills me about the new Mustang though and it was one of the reasons I didn't get it, is because of the lack of an IRS. Although the new Mustang handles respectable without it, thats fine on a smooth race track but out on the street with road imperfections will still upset the live axle. They really did perfect the live rear axle..it won't get any better.

The killer part is the S197 Mustang was designed from the get go with an IRS, a proper one, not that band aid the 99-04 SVT Cobras got. To save $100 per unit they went with the live axle....

Now I put my money where my mouth is I bought an M3, this is my 3rd M3 and I just came out of a Porsche 997S. I was thoroughly impressed with the Mustang and the interior was actually pretty good if you get the premium package and the electronics package.

Guys who really track their cars know what I am talking about. The new Mustang is making a name for itself at tracks all across the US. The only reason I didn't buy a Mustang is I lease and the leases were terrible. Also, JD Power just rated Ford #5 in their quality survey, BMW wasn't even in the top 10.

Give credit where credit is due..I love M3's, like I said this is my 3rd one but the new Stang is a lot better than some of you realize. Granted you may still not want to buy one...fine, that's called capitalism.

Dave, thanks for the insight. There's a lot of ignorance in here, and if people only knew half of Ford's racing heritage, they would not be saying things such as "It's still a Ford".

I'd take a '11 GT500 in a heart ..

Ha. Ha. You youngsters.

First year Mustang SVO - 2.3 liter, 4 pot, intercooled turbo, big brakes, Recaro seats, extra suspension travel. Bought the first one to show up in Silicon Valley.

Had 1990 SHO for 12 years, also.

Ford can build some nice cars when they want to.

It doesn't suit my current situation, need 4 doors.

Aside from that, while I keep reading the live axle handling has been improved upon, I do think Ford needs to spend the couple pennies and permanently dispose of it. Of course, the drag strip guys might disagree, since I think the live axle can take more straight line abuse. More of a road course guy myself, so I'd also prefer less weight.

2010 saw interior improvements, but maybe not enough for most here. I'd certainly wish for that engine in the M3.
