Mike

Why is what Buck said off topic? I think if you are going to post up contradicting opinions on how tuning works you should explain despite who you work for now or in the past. New members to the forum might not know but I remember you telling people that custom tuning was the only way to tune these cars and now you are saying and selling something completely different. If you were not doing the actual tuning back in the day at Powerchip then why would you put your name on it? You called the Powerchips software the “custom Mike Benvo tune” at one time. You also went as far as to post many times why it is better than the competitions standard tunes and that it made more power so you obviously had something to do with it or had first hand experience in testing it. You can’t put your name on something, say it is the best and market it only to later say you had nothing to do with it. This would imply that you were marketing and selling something that you had no knowledge of or you were misleading people by putting your name on something you had nothing to do with. Also telling people you worked for ESS is a bit of a stretch don’t you think? as you simply sold their software on a M5 forum for a couple months as an independent contractor not as an actual employee.

I have learned a lot about tuning over the years but I am no expert so please explain how custom tuning a stock or bolt on NA M3 on the dyno would be a benefit to a customer over a pre-made tune like the one you and everyone else currently sells. I cannot see where this dyno tuning process would benefit the M3. Also I would be very curious as to how you custom tune the parameters that we know improve performance like ignition, AFR’s etc..on a target based system that self adapts and what the exact differences would be if done for a customer since you seem to have experience with doing so. What parameters are you custom tuning based off of the data you get from a dyno? What data from the dyno are you collecting that is required for these changes? Can you elaborate?

m33: I have not said anything contradictory. The Powerchip tune was developed on my car years ago with input and feedback from me relayed to PC's calibrators. That's why it was coined the way it was.

On the dyno, AFR, ignition, inlet and exhaust cam position, knock retard, and intake air temperature are some of the main values that are logged.

I provided information in my post to those that were interested about tuning. The question on this thread was "saftey of tunes". If you have information that would contribute to this thread regarding saftey of tunes, I emplore you to share with the rest of us. We are not interested in getting into forum arguments with you.

We have hundreds of happy customers with our performance software, and it speaks for itself.

Thank you
